I agree that 08 CB talent > > 02 CB talent.

But Gamble > > anyone but Jenkins. Whether or not that is worth having him play both ways is up to the coach; but it's a hypthetical that will likely never be asked of him, and he'd probably never give a straight answer anyway.

I agree with the "Gamble > anyone but Jenkins" although Washington will end up a very good one if he keeps his head on straight.

The problem I see is if Gamble played on this Buckeye team the staff would have never moved him over to begin with. Look at last year, he would have EASILY (IMO) been the #3 guy at WR....if not higher.

and if Gamble were on this year's Buckeye team, he'd still play both ways.

As I recall Gamble came to that position because nobody on the Defensive side could step up - not by design. I agree with Much - in 2008 he doesn't get a look (which should take care of the DB comparison).

2002. I would simply rather have the top three of Jenkins, Vance, and Gamble. In my opinion Chris Vance was more than solid in his two short years at tOSU. (hehe I just re-read the thread and didn't know Jax said the same exact thing) He had one of the more dominating WR performances in the Shoe this decade vs Purdue 2001. Gamble had the Ginn effect of opening things up for others by just being out there. And Jenkins..oh nuff said . Also it has been well documented about the contrast of offenses the FL connection played in compared to the diversified illness of the Troy/TB eras. After that if you rewind we were just as excited about the young depth of Childress, Hall, Holmes, not to mention Drew Carter. They get the nod because we've obviously been able to see what they have become.

I do think Robo has a chance to really be in the conversation with Jenkins, Homes etc. Hartline is very good and Ray Small is coming along, but the 2002 corps seemed more complete.

It's 4-and-14 in OT of the National Title Game. Who on the 2008 roster makes a play? Robo?

I don't know ... Circus catches when you already have the lead against Minnesota or Penn State are one thing, but if I need one play it's hard for me to pick against Jenkins & Gamble.

08 over 02. In 08, OSU has three all american's in the depth chart: Posey, Stoneburner, and Thomas. 02 did not have that type of talent waiting in the wings and pushing the vets.

Uhh...what? First off, those 3 will most likely not play a significant role in the passing game this year. Best case scenario for those 3 is one of them breaks the 3-deep and puts up numbers similar to Sanz last year. Second of all, what do you mean "three all american's?" Why don't you just go ahead and make the claim that every player from the 2008 class is an AA? Of course these guys have potential, but so did Dukes and Lyons.

On that play and many others, the entire world knew that the ball would be thrown at #12. He still got open and still made the catch every time we needed it without fail.

No way do I take anyone on this year's team over MJ in that situation. But we don't have to. No one on this team will be in that situation. There are numerous places the ball can go on 3rd (or 4th) and long.

Again, judging 2002 results vs. 2008 potential...

I hope like hell we're still debating this in November.

Thomas, Posey, Stoneburner were high school US Army All American's. The 02 team did not have 3 AA high school players coming in as freshmen at wr. I never mentioned they would play this yr, just the depth in talent is greater then 02.

Hold this thought until the "2010 vs. 2002" thread.
