Yea, I don't think it's close either. Beanie as a junior as opposed to MoC as a Freshman isn't really that close to me. Plus, I like the guys behind Beanie better collectively than what supported MoC (though I do miss Brandon Joe).

Clarett was a stud, moved the pile, hit home runs, caught passes out of the backfield, good blocker.

I think Clarett vs. Beanie is a closer call than some think.

and I think we had an advantage at FB in '02

however this years depth is sick, with a plethora of weapons

'08 by far on closer review

2008 in a landslide.

You have to ask if you are talking about a Clarett playing healthy - which he rarely did. His were not fluke injuries - they were exacerbated by his running style. Beanie runs just as strong and also gets dinged - but plays through it. Look at the strides Beanie made between his Frosh ans Soph seasons and consider that his wrist and ankle bothered him all season. Potentially we could see more improvement this year than we did last.

Factor that in - and look at the backups - and this one isn't close.

If you agree - think about that for a second. MoC was clearly one of the key components (if not the key component) of the 2002 run. And 2008 is better at that position by a a couple of leagues.

This is a really good post. You can't diminish the importance of Beanie's ability to play through very serious injuries, especially compared to MoC's constant injury problems that had him missing entire games and significant portions of games. For those that think MoC was actually a better back than Beanie, that seems a very difficult point to overcome. I'll give you that both are/were extraordinary backs, but I'll take Beanie any day.

Clarett did have his knee scoped in the early season, but was fairly injury-free up until he got that bad shoulder stinger at the end of the game at Wisconsin. From that time on it seemed he was always hurt because the defense would key on that shoulder. His and Beanie's running style are nearly identical...both attack the line and would also bounce it outside, and both combined speed with power and were hard to bring down on initial contact. Beanie did play through his injuries (he did come off the fiield several times on his own due to his ankle), but so did Clarett, at least as well as could be expected for the type of injury Clarett had.

Neither of Beanie's injuries were "very serious injuries"...a compound fracture is a "very serious injury".

OK, well, semantically, maybe "relatively serious injuries" would be a better statement. Do we disagree that most backs would have missed a few games last season w/ the injuries that Beanie was carrying around since early in the year?
