Receiver Brian Hartline, one of two Buckeyes made available to speak to reporters, said the team had not been told anything specific about those three players, but seemed to indicate in other comments that disciplinary action was possible.
"Guys who get in trouble, sometimes they're not bad guys, and in this case, there were a couple guys who got in trouble and they're not bad guys," Hartline said. "I wish them the best of luck because they have such high goals for themselves and the things they're doing may not get them to their goals.
"If you screw up once, I completely understand - you're young. But when it's a second and third time, it's like, 'Man, you want to be treated like an adult, I'm not going to hold your hand.' "
Clifford was previously suspended from the national championship game last year after failing a drug test.
According to Ohio State's drug-testing policy, any player who tests positive a second time faces an automatic two-game suspension, while any player testing positive a third time is suspended for an entire season and could have his scholarship revoked.

The first team:
Friday's rare practice glimpse allowed confirmation of players working with the first team.
Offensively, that was quarterback Todd Boeckman, with a line of Alex Boone, Kyle Mitchum, Jim Cordle, Connor Smith and Bryant Browning. Keep in mind that projected starters Steve Rehring and Ben Person, as well as early-enrolled freshmen Michael Brewster, J.B Shugarts and Mike Adams, are sidelined with injuries.

With starter Brian Robiskie limited while recovering from arthroscopic surgery in February on his right knee, Ray Small in No. 82 and working his way back after having his No. 4 stripped from him for off-field reasons, and Taurian Washington hobbled by a recent ankle injury, the first-team receivers were Brian Hartline, Dane Sanzenbacher and Grant Schwartz.
In the backfield, Beanie Wells saw several split-back sets with Brandon Saine by his side.
Defensively, the newsmakers were Tyler Moeller joining James Laurinaitis and Marcus Freeman at first-team linebacker. Brian Rolle wore a blue limited-contact jersey, while Curtis Terry saw work primarily at defensive end.
Thaddeus Gibson, having switched from No. 38 to No. 90, saw a lot of work at first-team end, while the secondary was jumbled by the three players sitting out. Chimdi Chekwa worked at a starting corner, then covered the slot receiver as the "star" in the nickel package with Andre Amos at the other corner.
