2008 tOSU QB discussion (official thread)

I dont understand why they wont even give Todd a series...the last time they did, TB played quite well (i think it was two games ago). I know JT wants to get pryor all the experience, but at some point we will need TB.
Todd plays well when the oline gives him time... Pryor even with his mobility couldn't escape the pass rush on Saturday. What do you think TB would've done?

Have to agree, many plays Pryor had no time at all. I think it got to the point he became rattled. Have to wonder does anyone know what a screen pass is?
I'd like to see OSU's staff break down film of the Red River Rivalry and borrow some of those plays. No reason they can't run some of the dump-offs with Posey and Flash and break every fourth one for a TD. Give TP two or three reads, and if there's nothing there tuck it and go.

I think Pryor has gotten lucky on the option pitches. I thought the one in the final quarter vs Wisconsin, and one in the Purdue game were both forward laterals.

The one in the Purdue game was recorded as a forward pass, but Pryor was still behind the line of scrimmage, so no harm done.

As long as he stay behind the LOS to do it, I don't mind it because it eliminates the possibility of a fumble on a missed pitch, assuming that the officials notice that it was passed forward.

That's a bit high.

When you're 2-3 yds behind the LOS, it's not "lucky". Haven't watched the Purdue film yet (but Bucky's nemesis seems to think it was fine)

hard to say. last year he tossed 2,900 yards against the same chopped liver we cant move the ball against. i think that ship has sailed though.

we have the 94th offense in the country, about 10 more spots and even tony franklins fired tail is laughing at us...

I know everyone wants to see some screen passes, but they have gone for little or naught lately in many of the games I have watched this season. As always there are exceptions to that, but I think defenses are more in tune to them and are much quicker to defend them.

I think some quick slants or tight end pop passes would be more effective, especially out of the pistol for TP...

Does anyone think Boeckman will get drafted, after what has happened so far this season? Many were projecting him to be a mid round pick, than he started off the year less than stellar against Youngstown State, Ohio and USC. If anything, I see him as an undrafted free agent at this point. Its kind of sad, the guy has given a lot to the program and now really doesn't have a chance to make it to the NFL anymore.

boeckman has the size nfl gm's like. but he does and has always lacked arm strength. i personally saw him as a late day draft last year. my opinion of him hasn't changed. i could still see him drafted around the late rounds. while it would amuse me, though it wouldn't be a surprise, i could see him going slightly higher than troy smith did.

Anyone have any thoughts on why there are so many more penalties with Boeckman? That's a huge difference right there, and unless I'm mistaken, neither Boeckman nor Pryor have any penalties.

a mobile qb takes pressure off your ot's. if you have a relatively immobile guy behind you its critical that you play at 100% every play. if the guy behind you can avoid a rush, it takes a lot of the pressure off of you. same as a good tb takes the pressure off the oline.

I'd rather lose under Pryor for the rest of the season than put Boeckman in the game. There, I said it. I'd much rather take our chances with Terrelle and see what happens. I do not see TB as a game changing performer and I believe Pryor has the ability to be that for us.

And as long as the pitch man is also behind the LOS when he catches it, so there's no penalty for a lineman downfield. :wink2:

I think TP is waiting for the perfect play too often. (it could be that Tressel puts so much pressure to not turn the ball over) but he never lets it go on time unless the guy is wide open. I think it could do TP some good if he could come out for a series or two and watch a QB drop back and throw in a rhythm. The problem is Boekman rarely throws the ball on time either so I don't think you mess with it. If we are going to try the screen game I think we should use the middle more since everyone is rushing the edges to keep contain on TP.

Sitting him for a couple series for anything other than bad play accomplishes nothing. He just needs to be told to run through his progressions, and if nothing's open he does one of two things:

1. If there's space, tuck it and run like hell
2. If there's no space, throw the ball into C Deck

He also needs to be reminded to never scramble backwards, lest he suffers a 20-yard sack.
