2008 Preseason and Regular season Polls

Georgia might be more explosive and talented than Ohio State...

...but just in case I'm wrong I'll put OSU at #1, so I can look smart if Georgia wins out or if OSU wins out. Pure genius.

Can we buy some respect? Since when has a team returning 19/20 starters (including 2 All Americans) and coming off back to back BCS MNC appearances gotten so little respect?

Uh, you are aware that Colt Brennan graduated, Hawaii's top 3 WRs are gone, and their defense is going to suck even worse than this year? Oh yeah, they open their season at Florida, where they'll be summarily slaughtered. Hawaii won't sniff the top 40 all year.

Seniors in high school shouldn't be smoking crack...

Kansas at #2 is almost as hilarious as Hawaii at #9. The only reason Kansas did what they did last year was they avoided Oklahoma, Texas and Texas Tech on the schedule. Plus, they came out of no where last year, it's a whole new ballgame for teams that aren't used to everybody they play gunning for them. They won't be sneaking up on anybody this year. Oh yeah, Oklahoma, Texas and Texas Tech are all back on the schedule this year.

Agreed that the Big 10 is vastly underrated, but the bottom half of the SEC would kill the bottom half of the Big 10.

The last two seasons the Big 10 hasn't been underated at all. We are down big time. Penn State is like a .500 team in the SEC. Wisconsin would probably lose 4 games in the SEC. I'm not getting on the SEC bandwagon but we are what we are. Right now that is a very mediocre conference. Things are looking way up in the next 5 years though.

Funny you mention Wisconsin and Penn St. when they've had the most recent success against the SEC along with scUM and Iowa. The Big-10 is underrated. It can't be anything else when people rag on it as much as they do.

Kill is too strong of a word. I think they'd have the upper hand but I also think schools like Minny, Northwestern, and Indiana are catching up.
But at the same time, schools like Kentucky, Vanderbilt, and Mississippi State are also on the uptick. The only SEC team last year that I don't think could have made a serious charge at a top 5 Big 10 finish was Ole Miss, and with Houston Nutt now there, they should be improved.

But the SEC is that much better than everyone. I'd take us in matchups vs. the Pac 10 or the Big 12.

You have to admit that having five coaches with a National Championship (not including one with an undefeated season) coaching in the same conference is a sick stat.

Yeah, exactly. I'm so sick of the constant SEC talk. They have a great conference. Why don't we ever hear about the Big East, ACC or PAC 10? And it's not like the Big 12 is awesome lately either.

Of course I'm a homer, but to say that the Big 10 is mediocre is stretching it. Down from where it used to be, yes. Moving in the right direction? Once RR gets going and JoPa is gone, yes.
