2008 King James Basketball Tournament

Here are some more links with articles;
GIANT KILLERS

The story of Saturday is simple. The storied AAU clubs are done while the up and comers continue to play on.

Nearly all of the teams thought to be a favorite to win the King James Shooting Stars Classic will be watching from the stands on Sunday. That is, of course, if they are still around to see the action.

The giant killers went to work on Saturday. Of course, don't tell that to the teams that are still playing. They played like they were the giants and not the slayers.

Gone are the Atlanta Celtics, Indiana Elite, New York Gauchos, Illinois Warriors, Illinois Wolves, Playground Elite, The Family, Mac Irvin Fire, Worldwide Renegades and the Florida Rams.

Moving on to the championship bracket for the 17 and under division are the Mean Streets out of Chicago, Ohio Basketball Club, DC Assault, Rising Stars Gold (Ill.), BABC, Caps All-Stars, Team NLP and the CP3 All-Stars.

2009 to performers , a recap.

As good as the 2008 class was in Akron last weekend, the 2009 players were also impressive.

Rivals.com's Justin Young breaks down his top sophomore performers from the King James Classic. Check back for the best of the 2008 class at the event

A first night report about Trae Golden.
Hoops report
In the first game of the night we saw the dynamic duo of Derrick Favors and Trae Golden help the Atlanta Celtics to a win over the Baltimore Stars.
Favors, the #2 player in the class of 2009, lived up to his lofty ranking by scoring 18 points, two of which came on a monster tomahawk dunk at the end of the game. The 6?9 power forward was a presence on defense, too, where he did a good job of controlling the boards and blocking (and altering) shots

Glad to hear the ankle injury wasn't that serious and Golden is back to himself...

Also of note Payne did not make it to the tourney due to a stomach muscle injury that occured during track...

Lots of solid talk abou Witherspoon the 6'7'' SF from Northland...Don't think he is really on our board with Wright and Thomas already on the board...

Riley the same as usual, a couple flashes, but more potential than production at the moment...

Sullinger has looked good...I look for Golden, Thomas, and Sullinger to stay at least in the top 30 all the way thru their recruitment...Probably not top 10 like they are now...

Rivals.com$ (Brian Snow)

King James offers alot on Saturday.....

Golden described as a combination of Brent Darby and Jamar Butler....

Hairston played up to his lofty ranking and then some.....tOSU and Georgetown staffs were his shadow...

Riley has not played according to his ranking and tOSU may have moved on.....

Thanks guys. It would have been nice for the DC Assault kids to play the Ohio kids again. That was a great game last week.

Any word about that big kid Kyle Rowley from Chicago? I'm curious as to how he is developing because his team played against Riley this morning.

Some other notes...

Wright had a pretty good weekend, filling the stat sheet like he normally does...

Also think that Golden is going to be very good for us when he gets here, and if he is a 6'1'', 6'2'' combo guard we will be getting 3 to 4 years out of him...If he was 6'5'' or so he would be one and done...Great scoring ability...

BTW Dayton got a steal in Staten...

Thanks for the news guys. Any consensus yet on who were the best? Sullinger for one. It appears that some dropped, due to their play.

If you are talking on a national level and not just in terms of our recruits, I would say Crandall Head, Luther's brother is one of the best in the 10' class...
