HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL
Spotlight on Favors

Saturday, April 26, 2008 Tim Rogers

Plain Dealer Reporter
It seemed only appropriate that the top-ranked high school center in America played in the first game of the third annual Applebee's King (LeBron) James Shooting Stars Classic in Rhodes Arena on Friday.
He is 16 years old, stands 6-9 and weighs 225 pounds. Soon, he will have the world at his fingertips.
His name is Derrick Favors, and he is from Atlanta. He will be a senior at South Atlanta High next fall. In the summer, he plays for the Atlanta Celtics, which figures to be one of the top 17-and-under teams on display this weekend.

While Ohio State is not on Favors' list, the Buckeyes did land one of his teammates in point guard Trae Golden. Only a sophomore, Golden already has committed to OSU, and he and Favors made a nice post player/point guard combination Friday.

Can you guys post the recaps from the various Ohio papers? I'm sure the event is being covered by local news to some extent.

I'm trying to keep the Badger BBall board at Recruiting Planet as consistently active as possible.

From what I've read in the Cleveland Plain Dealer, the only newspaper that was covering the King James was the PD. The rest of the coverage was coming from scouting services. Whether or not that will change, I do not know. The only article by a newspaper is the one above posted by OSUBasketballJunkie.

From PD article linked above

Tournament officials have issued approximately 100 media credentials for the three-day event. Most of them represent dot.coms and scouting services. The Plain Dealer was the only daily newspaper in Ohio to apply for credentials.
