2008 Buckeye Football Season

Come to think of it, who will be getting the bulk of the playing time that has opened up at RT (Barton), OLB (Grant), and FB (Johnson)?

That is assuming Lawrence Wilson is the main beneficiary at DE because Vernon Gholston heading for the NFL.

At OLB, I'll guess Curtis Terry, Ross Homan, Brian Rolle, Austin Spitler will all be in the mix?

RT, I really have no idea. I guess it could be a freshman? Could they move Rehring there?

At FB the only guy on the roster that I know of is Aram Olson.

I'm thinking Browning at RT............................
With Skinner.(if he's healthy) Backing him and Shuggarts.

Olson can't get healthy, so we probably go to a H back for blocking.

If Browning doesn't cut it at RT Maybe a true freshman will take the spot? Adams anyone?

The OLB position is the interesting spot to me. I'd love to see what Homan can do with animal/Freeman! But the speed and tanacity of Rolle is so hard to pass up, but I don't look at Brian Rolle as a SLB.

FB-Maybe spitler with the way our trend has been with making Lb's into Fb's. Olson would have the inside track on everyone if he could stay healthy. I thought that he was suppose to be the next great FB besides Jamar Martin, too bad he can't keep healthy.

I normally hate the crazy talk regarding 3-4 defenses, but if there were ever a year to give it a try.....

Cameron Heyward is your protoypical 3-4 defensive end
Robert Rose is a prototypical 3-4 defensive end
Doug Worthington is a prototypical 3-4 defensive end


Stick Denlinger in the middle and rotate with Larimore/Nader/Goebel

Thadeus Gibson at OLB
Marcus Freeman at OLB
James Laurinitis MLB
Ross Homan MLB

Rotate in Rolle, Spitler, etc.

At the very least, I think it gets our best athletes on the field.

Gibson has shown a great pass rush ability and would be terrific in an attacking 3-4 defense.

I think Laurinitis and Homan are smart enough and physical enough to make the adjustment to a 3-4.

I just think it'd be very exciting, and give us a new look to confuse our opponents.

If you thought the Buckeyes football program was finished after the National Championship game, think again. All the pieces are there for the Buckeyes to return for the third time to the "Big Game".

I know everyone is tired of seeing the Bucks at the top, but we really have nothing to apologize for.

Is it really Ohio State's fault that a 41-point underdog went into the Coliseum and beat the Greatest College Football Team ever?

Is it our fault that UGA was throttled by the Volunteers?
I think not.

Amidst all the whining and crying that everyone did at the end of the season, I feel deep down the best team in the Nation won and no team was going to change that, not even USC. I do know this: The more people trash talk OSU and view us as sub par to the elite teams, the more the Buckeye team and fans will love proving you wrong next season.

The Buckeyes will be back in 2008 stronger than ever and the Big Ten better be prepared. Most of the team will be returning as well as some dynamic new young players and an offensive line that will be dominant for years to come. With the return of Malcolm Jenkins, Marcus Freeman, Alex Boone, Brian Robiskie, and possibly Laurinaitis, OSU will be a force to be reckoned with.

I want to personally congratulate LSU on their Championship, and by the way, you have great fans. What a class act Glenn Dorsey is returning to lead his team to a Championship.

I also want to thank LSU and Florida because in playing them, we have learned what it takes to play with a swagger, and yes Big 10 fans; we learned some things from the SEC. We have become a better team thanks to those games.

With all of our juniors doing what Dorsey did by staying for the love of their team and university, we will get the chance to do something very special and rare next year by returning to a third National Championship.

Write this date down in your calendar and remember it, September 13, 2008. This is when we will see the Buckeyes ready to regain the respect of the nation.

so which freshman do you guys think will make the biggest impact in 2008?

right now my pick would be Posey, he should have a chance to play right away and give a much needed extra playmaker in the recieving core that really wasnt there this past season

Maybe someone could call Shaq and tell him he doesn't need to diet anymore :)

The middle is obviously the weakness in trying to establish a 3-4. Our DE's (Heyward, Worthington, Rose) in that system I think are the perfect match.

I know it's a pipe dream basically, it just seems we need to infuse some new looks/creativity to this defense. I'd love seeing Gibson do his best Kamerion Wimbley impression with Homan and Laurinitis locking down the inside. I think Heyward translates the best to a 3-4 out of anyone on our roster, and I think Worthington would find a more natural position as well.

I don't think there are very many programs in the country that could even consider this, but OSU is one.

Is it in the budget to let the DT's have a Thanksgiving dinner every night?

That Bleacher Report has the bit about all the Juniors returning incorrect (as Gholston is opting to play on Sundays).

On DT's how quickly could Rowell, Mobley et al help solidify against the run (whether a 3 or 4-man line is used)?

Possibly Shugarts if he can fight for the starting job at tackle..

Thomas is one to keep an eye on as well.

Big DTs are not just brought in and dominate from day one. Those guys are built in the weight room and in the fire of competition. We just need the guys in the middle to be solid.
We just don't have the big guy in the middle(for the 3-4) on this team.
And coaches have a comfort level with certain styles and are loathe to change if it works.
Bottom line; Don't look for any "style" change any time soon.
