2008 Buckeye Football Season

While some tight games may make us more battle tested for what happens in the BCS late in the season, I for one hope the season works out that many of our young players(linebackers, offensive linemen, corners) get alot of from scrimmage playing time to gain some experience. The roster is solid, but developing some experience will go along way in 2009 to cement that we once again reload, rather that take a small step back.
I wouldn't be worried about that. It seems that Tressel does an amazing job at rotating players in and out of the game. If the youngsters are ready to play their freshman year then JT will find a way to put them on the field. If they're not ready right away, then they'll redshirt.

When we played Texas in 2006 I remember hearing a UT fan in the stands lamenting about their offense when we started pounding the ball away with Pittman after we picked up a 14-7 lead - how they didn't have any FB's and couldn't execute any power plays because of their personnel geared towards the spread, and how we could spread the field out going 5-wide one play, and then run power-I the next.

I was reading sears' post in the Pryor thread about him being the missing link and it got me thinking... or dreaming anyway. The '08 edition offense could be very versatile, and very scary for our competition.

good point but as we know,ESPiN told us many times, our schedule has been weak recently too. I think this years schedule has much tougher competition.Wiscy is improving hell basically all the BT is improving somewhat(minus scUM) throw in USC, a Troy team that always seems to bite a team or two in a season. I just don't think this year will be too filled with blowouts.

And that is a good point too. This is going to be a really interesting season. We've never had a team this talented on paper under Tressel but we may have never faced a schedule this tough under Tressel either(though '02 and '05 were pretty brutal).

Personally, I'd say 2002 was tougher.

I know every player steps their game up for this one, but please explain how your worried about the scUM matchup this year... have you even seen their roster?

Not to say I disagree with you but maybe that's the reason in itself to worry. Dick Rod if he was smart would say boys our main goal is to beat the buckeyes to get the fans solid behind him. Therefore as we look foward to a NC as our final goal scUM is focusing on us the whole year. Being the clear #1 in the BT we will have a taraget on our backs all year especially if we beat USC.

I can see what you saying, and the concern is legit; and while I'm trying not going to rule out anything - the differences in talent on both sides of the ball are stellar. I mean, they're going to have a young QB finishing up his first season under the spread, playing in an extremely hostile environment against a fully seasoned, experienced and senior laden Buckeyes who are just as hungry to prove themselves and make it to another NC.

Me thinks we'll be alright. I'm looking foward to USC, Wisconsin and Illinois.

I agree with you I would actually s of now say we win by at least 14 probably more. I was just expanding on SB28's concern and also we have been so close to so many NC only to let it slip away...bad thoughts, bad thoughts

I don't think this season will be the toughest, but certainly no calkwalk. Obviously, at Wisconsin, at USC, and at Illinois will be tough, no doubt about it. I think we'll take care of Minnesota, Purdue, PSU, and Northwestern with ease (winning those four games last year by a combined score of 149-38). I have a feeling MSU will give us a lot of problems at East Lansing.

I'll save judgment for Michigan until the week before The Game. It's one thing to have a huge personnel shake-up, but it's another thing altogether to have a coaching shake-up on top of it - not to mention a pretty colossal one at that. We've been quick to point out Rich Rod's deficiencies when it comes to coaching in "the big game" but maybe a change in locale alters his outlook, you just never know.

This team has the ability to score in so many different ways with so many different weapons....going to be a lot of fun watching the ways they get it done. Here's hoping Tress figures out how to spread the football around to as many weapons as possible.

Man, and I thought Troy's senior season was a fun offense to watch...this year...oh...think of the possibilities. :)

I know michigan is the game of all games for us and I'll always look at them as dangerous... but if there's a year where we should pound them its this year...

They have zero QB's, lost their best players on the oline, lost their all everythign running back, they are breakin in new recievers, and they are losing some good chunks of talent on defense too..

I'll always respect UM, but damn thats a lot to replace
