Buckeyes gladly accept delay in series
Purdue rolls before rain takes over

The Columbus Dispatch
There might have some people disappointed that a cold, hard rain wiped out the second game of the Purdue-Ohio State baseball doubleheader yesterday.

Don't count Buckeyes players among them.
After losing 8-0 to Purdue, OSU players fled Bill Davis Stadium as if it were a jailbreak. They needed time to regroup.
For the second straight day, the Boilermakers looked every bit like the second-best team in the Big Ten, making diving, running and leaping defensive plays and hitting the long ball.
"There's a reason they're in second place," Ohio State coach Bob Todd said.
Purdue (19-16, 11-3), which trails only Michigan in the conference standings, scored five runs in the third inning off Dan DeLucia.

Ohio State roundup
Baseball team lands tournament spot

Sunday, May 18, 2008 3:46 AM

The time for summer television reruns is near, and yesterday the Ohio State baseball team marked the occasion by following a script from last year to qualify for the Big Ten tournament. The Buckeyes needed to win their final game to clinch a spot -- just like in 2007 when they went on to win the Big Ten tournament -- and they did it with a 9-7 victory over Iowa in Iowa City.
Ohio State finished 15-15 in the conference for the second straight year and 30-24 overall, and will take on Illinois in the first round of the tournament at Michigan. It's the 12th consecutive year the Buckeyes were among the top six in the conference to qualify for the tournament.
In the first inning, Ohio State's Justin Miller extended his hitting streak to 14 games with a run-scoring single. Ryan Dew followed with an RBI double and Cory Rupert hit a two-run double to give the Buckeyes a 4-0 lead.
