SOUTHPORT, England -- If this was nearly any other week, Padraig Harrington would already be home.

Instead, he was strolling around blustery Royal Birkdale, still trying to cope with the pain in his right wrist, still trying to work out how he can possibly defend his British Open championship.

Harrington cut short another practice round Wednesday on the eve of the tournament, managing only three full swings before his wrist started throbbing again. He walked the rest of the course, limiting himself to chipping and putting, the only things he felt comfortable enough to risk.

So, will he play?

Norman is -1 today after 5 holes. Rocco made the turn at even on the day. They are tied for the lead at -1.

That new marriage to Chrissy Evert seems to be helping his golf game.

He shot another 70 today, and is the leader in the clubhouse, with half the field still on the course.

The wind is just killing the scoring today. Norman and Choi are now tied for the lead at +4, with 8 holes left.

Ben Curtis started the day in 38th place, shot a par 70, and is now tied for 7th place. He could easily be top-5 before the day is done.

Anymore, a major tournament without Tiger is not even a golf tournament. I would have loved to see how he played with these type of wind. Probably, a lot of low screamers.

Never thought I would see it happen.

They had to do something to maintain interest with Tiger gone, and this is it.

Watch Norman's shots more closely. They will change direction radically in mid air to go from garbage to golden. Or it will appear they are heading for the rough and suddenly the camera shows them rolling on the green.

This is the same technology they used to stage the lunar landing. The British papers have caught on but the news is not making it stateside. The British Open is a fraud! Harrington leads at -6 and we are being fed this doctored video stream.
