2007 NFL Draft (Projections/Mock Drafts/Evaluations/Draft)

Bullshit.

Especially Alex Smith.

Russell for sure is a first rounder in any year. Smith's senior year and combine, set the table for him to be drafted #1. He started 2 years at Utah and had 47td's, 7 picks and 15 rushing td's. He averaged 500 yds rushing his last 2 years. Most importantly, he was coached by the great Urban Meyer  .
He was lucky to be picked first, but I think he goes first round in every draft the last 10 years. Maybe as low as the late 20's, but after that season, he's going first round.

I agree. My point was the Browns seem to have tough luck with first round picks getting hurt for whatever the reason is. I think 31 teams would be lucky to have him, but the Browns are the one who wouldn't. Just my humble opinion.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, the Browns have tough luck with injuries concerning players who never had a history of injury trouble. Hell, Courtney Brown was a beast at Penn State.

It's football. People get hurt. If the Browns can get Peterson, I say get him. We already passed on LaDanian Tomlinson and I don't want to do it again.

I don't know about Russell. The thing I find amazing is that virtually no one (at least from what I heard) talked about how great a QB Russell is or how he'll be a great QB at the next level until after the Sugar Bowl. And let's just say it doesn't take a phenom at QB to dismantle ND's secondary. I've watched several of his games, and while he is a beast, his throwing skills IMO would put him in the lower half of NFL QBs at best.
i dont think a lot of people were looking at him all season, whose fault is that yours? espns? college gamedays? gms? i bet that last group was watching, or knew...

We'll see how successful Russell is in the NFL. I'm not saying he won't be a starter or he won't be around for several years. But as I said before, I've watched him play a number of times, and I just don't think he'll ever be that good of a QB in the NFL. Accordingly, I don't think he's worthy of being the #1 pick overall.

So you say draft people with injury history, avoid players without?

I LIKE IT!! Send Savage the memo!

NFL draft combine article with interesting facts, including:

Over the past 10 drafts (1997-2006), 2,522 players have been drafted from 243 different schools. Fourteen schools have had 38 or more players selected in that time frame:
1. Miami (Fla.), 67
t2. Florida State, 66
t2. Ohio State, 66
4. Tennessee, 61
5. Georgia, 54
6. Florida, 53
7. Nebraska, 52
t8. Southern Cal, 45
t8. Virginia Tech, 45
t10. Michigan, 43
t10. Wisconsin, 43
12. LSU, 40
13. Oklahoma, 39
14. Arizona State, 38

If you choose to weigh the higher draft picks, you change the results somewhat. If you take those picks and assign a value as follows:
First 10 picks in draft -- 6 points
Next 20 (11-30) -- 5 points
Next 30 (31-60) -- 4 points
Next 40 (61-100) -- 3 points
Next 50 (101-150) -- 2 points
Pick 151 to end of draft -- 1 point
Then you're left with the following list:
1. Miami -- 67 players, 226 points
2. Florida State -- 66 players, 212 points
3. Ohio State -- 66 players, 193 points
4. Tennessee -- 61 players, 163 points
5. Florida -- 53 players, 161 points
6. Georgia -- 54 players, 153 points
7. Nebraska -- 52 players, 125 points
8. Michigan -- 42 players, 116 points
9. Texas -- 33 players, 112 points
10. Oklahoma -- 39 players, 111 points
11. Wisconsin -- 43 players, 109 points
12. LSU -- 40 players, 104 points
13. Virginia Tech -- 45 players, 103 points
14. Penn State -- 34 players, 102 points

Name the three schools with the most players drafted since 1936.
1. Notre Dame, 472
2. USC, 404
3. Ohio State 354

Read this on the Begnals Official Site.

I love what they say about Hall. (not sure why it jacked up in the paste, sorry tried to clean it up)

SLaRon LandryLSU6-0191Long gone before Bengals pick
CBLeon HallMichigan5-10195Could use a fast 40 time to get Ted Ginn?s burn marks off his back
CBDarrelle RevisPittsburgh5-11194Junior who can hit but can he run? How good of a returner?
SReggie NelsonFlorida6-0195One-year wonder or a big Bob Sanders?
SMichael GriffinTexas6-0208A walking turnover machine like Ed Reed?
CBDaymeion HughesCalifornia5-11185Instinctive, great numbers but is a 4.5 guy who bowed out of Sr. Bowl with hamstring pull and needs to run fast
CBTanard JacksonSyracuse5-11190Safety type who can cover and likes to hit. A sleeper first rounder.

The 5-10, 195-pound Hall, the No. 1 pre-prospect at this point, is a mirror of the class. Solid, reliable. Not not a burner, but you can win with him.

“But a very solid player on a high level,” Jones says, “and his character is off the charts.” Rang agrees but he’s also a little concerned about the final weeks of the season when Ohio State’s Ted Ginn Jr., and USC’s Dwayne Jarrett ran by him, and lesser known guys bolted by him in Senior Bowl practices.

Can anyone explain to me compensations picks and how it works. I have heard that the Falcons might be gettting a compensation pick for Schaffer going to the Browns last year...

I believe that the NFL classifies free agents (A, B, etc.), and if a team loses one of those classified free agents, they will be given compensatory picks for them. 3rd round is the highest you can get, and those are rarely rewarded... Most of them fall from the 5th to the 7th round. A team can also get picks if they lose a substantial # of FA's and don't sign very many... Also, compensatory picks can't be traded.
