Smith in the early 2nd to Dt. would be a nice fit. I really liked Kitna when he was in Cincy. He'd be a perfect fit as a mentor for TS. Actually couldn't think of a better person to fill JT's shoes.

Talent-wise however. . . .

NO WAY do I want to see Smith go to Detroit. They are a horrible franchise. BTW, Kiper's projections of OSU Senior Bowl participants' draft rounds:

Smith -- round 3 or 4
Pitcock -- round 3 (WTF -- every projection I've seen before has him in the first round)
Patterson -- early to mid day 2
Datish -- early day 2

Well, I do. As a Lions fan and a UM fan, it's win-win. Either Smith turns out really well (which I think he'll do) and the Lions FINALLY have a quarterback worth having.....or I never have to hear my Buckeye-fan cousin go on and on and on and on and on about the magic brilliance of Troy the Great. Bad enough when Eddie George won the Heisman and then turned out to have a great pro career :tongue2:

In seriousness, I'd draft Troy Smith so far ahead of Brady Quinn it's not even funny. I hate how scouts watch guys like Quinn and Drew Stanton work out and immediately go gaga over their size and "tools". It's like four years of ridiculously inconsistent play and folding under pressure is magically wiped away 'cause he's 6'4" and not 6'0". It's retarded.

I would love for the Browns to get Pitcock in the 2nd if he were to fall that far. Patterson in the 5th or 6th would be a steal as well. That would fix up the DE spot for a while. Pitcock could start at DE and move to NT on passing downs.

That is just stupid. Do you really mean to tell me that both Smith and Pitcock went from his "precious" top 25 to the 3rd round due to one game? At one point Quinn was in his top 10-12.

Now I see why he has all that hair, it's covering his ever inflating ego. And what kills me is how on draft day he'll sit back and say "we'll I had him graded out in the 3rd round, this seems high to me, blah blah." Guys who's jobs are on the line are making these decisions. He gets to sit back and judge from on high as if what he says is so more impotant than what the team actually believes.

ESPN was visionary putting the draft on TV. Now I just wish somebody else would get the rights. Anybody. Even the spanish channel!!

An NFL scout that I know said that Pitock is a smaller version of Tim Anderson. He'll be drafted on the first day, but his size will keep him from being a first round pick. Now days it seems like they like their defensive tackles to be in the 310 LB range. That is why Branch is so highly coveted.

Thanks for the info. I still see him as high as middle first on other boards. It all depends on the scout and the team.

No problem, I do agree that it depends on the scout. The scout that I am referring to is the highest paid in the NFL, if that gives any weight to what I've heard.........you be the judge.

I think it also depends on the team (not just their needs but their system and priorities with work ethic, discipline, etc.) I think Pitcock goes on day 1, but probably not in the 1st round right now. Patterson is day 2 all the way. I'd love for the Browns to pick up Pitcock in the 3rd.

Just out of curiosity... what does your brother think about Troy?

It is true that Kiper's word is essentially worthless. If some team picks in a different fashion from Mel's suggestion they are verbally assaulted on camera.

This then leads to others opining that if Kiper were all that and a bag of chips he would be an NFL scout (like daddyphatsacs cousin, say). That I think is grossly unfair to NFL Scouts, who are paid less than Mel Kiper, yet offer better player ratings to their organizations. Mel thinks he is above all of them anyway. Seriously, the real comparative in my mind is this: If Mel Kiper's judgement was as sound as he believes it to be, then he should be a General Manager of an NFL franchise.
And think on it, that in the end is who he is calling out with his on-screen, hissy fit, tirades when the real world's bigger board doesn't match up with his fantasy football mock draft.

That of course will never happen, for I feel it is very likely that NFL Scouts and GMs have a good time snickering over the hairy one's histrionics on camera.
