2007 McDonald's All-American Game

What a fitting end to have Mayo miss a wide open 3 after he had been shooting and missing all night...

Not sure who it was earlier that was saying he was unimpressed with Calathes, but I thought that he was very solid and had a great shooting stroke...

But honestly what the heck was up with KK not playing...He started off the game with a quick 7 pts and then I think he saw about 3 minutes to end the half and about 2 minutes in the second half...

I would understand if he was considered a bench player, but he was a starter and started the game with 7 points...

Also looked like guys like Gordon and Rose were trying to force their game, and werent that impressive tonite...

The thing I was most impressed with was the overall shooting in the game...They were all knocking down jumpers with a high percentage...

I don't see how Calathes is a 5 star player. He's got an impressive shot but other than that he's skinny, weak, slow, and has mediocre ballhandling skills. Am I judging too harshly? He looks like a poor man's John Diebler. Please, correct me if I'm wrong. I'm just going off what I'm seeing tonight.
he plays well with what he has, but he doesn't have much. he is not an athlete. he is a mouse among men when he drives to the bucket, although he does appear to be an excellent passer. his drill shooting is solid, but his game form is piss poor. he pushes the shot and extends himself far too much toward the basket. that's not surprising, considering that he has no muscle. certainly, a 5-star ranking is generous. though his numbers were good, you can tell that he was playing very hard. such tenacity is respectable; however, he was playing at or very near his ceiling.

edit: okay... "piss poor" is a bit of an exaggeration, but his last two shots were not in good form at all. he appears to be a high-energy player, and every team needs one of these guys.

he played just over 8 minutes in the first half, which is right on with how much time each player was supposed to receive. he got 5 minutes in the second half, which is the right amount if he's not one of the coach's go-to guys. this format doesn't suit kosta. you can tell that he wanted to play a pick-and-roll, give-and-go style of basketball. the mcdonald's game is not that type of basketball.

I agree 90% - an all star game is a great format for 24 physical freaks. Nothing would have been cooler than showcasing the 7'1" kid bringing the ball up the court and shooting 3s. I just watched the game on DVR after getting home from work, and KK was 1-1 from 3 (did he even miss a shot other than the fade away where he was fouled?)... he could have played more when they were trying to build a comeback.

You can say that again-this was even worse than the NBA All Star game. I started watching w/ about 15 minutes left and was disappointed not to see KK play. The only players I was impressed with were Cole Aldrich and Gani Lawal, everything else was too much of a mess.

I agree - Lawal was very impressive

Kosta seemed like he played about 10 min, and turned in 9 points.

These games are a lousy way to evaluate players, but last year's players performed a lot better, imo.

I would have liked to see a clearout for Kosta (O) vs Love (D).

with the average being 16:40 minutes (200 minutes divided by 12), kosta played a little over 3 minutes fewer than the average. unless the player is a banger underneath who cleans the boards, he must be moderately selfish to make a substantial impact. there is the positive spin. kosta is not moderately selfish. he's not even close.

Why did Ronald McDonald look like a serial killer?
