COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio State women's track and field team finished its second day of competition Saturday at the Kentucky Invitational inside Nutter Field House.

On the track, junior Ayrizanna Favours took fourth place in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.36. Freshman Leticia Wright grabbed fifth-place in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.65. In the 400m , sophomore Ashley Caldwell took tenth in a time of 57.34. In the 4x400-meter relay Ohio State took fifth in a time of 3:48.79.

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio State women's track and field team put together several solid performances at the Big Ten/SEC challenge Saturday in Bloomington, Ind., on the campus of Indiana University.

The Buckeyes were led by junior Ayrizanna Favours, who won the 400-meter dash in a time of 54.82. Chandra Krempel, Ashley Caldwell, Leticia Wright and Favours raced their way to a second-place finish in the 400-meter relay as Ohio State posted a time of 3:48.21 to edge third-place Florida.

I would not hold breath for track program to improve.
Theer are many unhappy student-athletes on the womens side and recruiting is non-existent in any area. The distance program will only get worse (though that may not be possible). It's unfortunate really because of all the talent in Ohio.

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio State women's track and field team completed action at the Akron Open Saturday inside of Stile Field House on the campus of the University of Akron.

Junior Ayrizanna Favours and Senior Veronica Jatsek took over the Stile Field House on Saturday. After posting the third-best time in the preliminaries of the gold division 60-meter dash, Favours won the GD 60m title dominating the field by more than a tenth of a second (7.48). Favours was not done as she went on to win the gold division 200-meter dash with a mark of 24.25.

Jatsek won the weight throw with a personal-best toss of 68 feet, 8 inches. The throw by Jatsek is the fourth-best toss in the country this season and the best in the Big Ten this season. Jatsek won event defeating Akron's Stevi Large, who holds the third-best toss in country this season. Jatsek's toss is also the eight-best toss by an American this year. Jatsek also posted a second-place finish in the gold division shot put with a toss of 48 feet, 6 1/4 inches.

COLUMBUS, Ohio ? The Ohio State women?s track and field showed its best on the first day of the New Balance Collegiate Invitational, Friday in New York City.
Junior Ayrizanna Favours qualified for the 400-meter final on Saturday with a eighth-place finish in the preliminaries in a time of 54.85. Favours also took 16th in the 60-meter dash against one of the toughest fields prior to the NCAA championships. Favours finished in a time of 7.61.

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio State women's track and field team scored solid marks on the final day of the New Balance Collegiate Invitational in New York City.

Senior Veronica Jatsek took the top spot in the weight throw with a toss of 67 feet, 7 inches. Jatsek defeated the field with ease, winning the event by almost four feet. Junior Ayrizanna Favours took seventh-place in the finals of the 400-meter dash in a time of 54.88. Sophomore Emily Thompson took 20th in the mile run in a time of 5:07.99.

McGinnis dashing to OSU

Shaker Heights sprinter Shaniqua McGinnis has signed a letter of intent with Ohio State.
"I fell in love with my teammates and the campus, especially the recreation center, but I also wanted to stay close to my family," said McGinnis, who considered Georgia, Texas Christian and Kentucky before choosing OSU, where she will major in accounting.

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio State women's track and field team finished third this weekend at the All-Ohio Championships in Findlay, Ohio. The Buckeyes finished with 92 team points behind second-place Cincinnati (106) and first-place Miami, Ohio (161.50).

Veronica Jatsek once again took first in the weight throw with a toss of 69-01.25 (21.06m) while Chelsea James (18-05.25) and Alana Gray (18-01.00) took first and second in the long jump.

The 4x400 meter relay team of Chandra Krempel, Ashely Caldwell, Letecia Wright and Ayrizanna Favours edged Miami, Ohio for first place with a time of 3:52.12. Krempel also won the 400 meter dash in a time of 55.91, followed by fourth-place Caldwell in 57.21.

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Senior Veronica Jatsek has earned her third Big Ten Field Athlete of the Week award this season, the Big Ten announced Tuesday.

Jatsek tossed a career-best weight throw with an NCAA-automatic qualifying mark of 69-01.25 (21.06m). Jatsek's toss ties her with Jessica Pressley of Arizona State for the fourth-best weight toss in the country and is the best in the Big Ten this season.

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio State women's track and field team finished competition Sunday in Minneapolis, Minn., at the 2008 Big Ten Championships. The Buckeyes finished 10th with 32 points, Minnesota defended its Big Ten title winning with 136 points.

The Buckeyes were led on the final day of the Big Ten championships by senior Veronica Jatsek. Jatsek won the weight throw title with a career-best toss of 70 feet, 7 3/4 inches. The toss by Jatsek is the second-best in Ohio State history behind Keturah Lofton?s school record by one inch. The toss is an NCAA automatic qualifier and is the second-best toss in the country this season behind world record holder Brittany Riley of Southern Illinois. The toss by Jatsek also set the University of Minnesota Fieldhouse record.

Junior Ayrizanna Favours scored in two events on Sunday. Favours grabbed fourth in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.56 and sixth-place in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.74. Also scoring points senior Chandra Krempel took eighth in the 600-meter run. Favours and Krempel joined with Ashley Caldwell and Ashley Jones in the 4x400-meter relay to take fourth in a time of 3:46.87.

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The NCAA released its national championship qualifiers on Monday and senior Veronica Jatsek will be representing the Ohio State women'?s track field team this weekend in the 2008 NCAA Indoor Championships at the Randal Tyson Track Center on the campus of the University of Arkansas.

Jatsek earned her trip to the championships by winning the Big Ten title in the weight throw with a season-best toss of 70 feet, 7 3/4 inches (21.53-meters). The toss is the second-best toss in the country this season. Jatsek is only behind Brittany Riley of South Illinois, who holds the world record in the weight throw. Jatsek will be looking to earn the third All-American honor of her career after winning the hammer throw in the 2007 outdoor season and the weight throw in the 2007 indoor season.

Jatsek earned her fourth-place finish with a toss of 70 feet, 3 3/4 inches (21.43-meters). The honor is the third of her career. Jatsek has earned All-American honors in her last three-consecutive seasons (2007 indoor weight throw, 2007 outdoor hammer, 2008 indoor weight throw).

Jatsek earned her trip to the NCAA championships by winning the Big Ten title in the weight throw with a season-best toss of 70 feet, 7 3/4 inches (21.53-meters). Senior Veronica Jatsek earned All-American honors in the weight throw with her fourth-place finish with a distance of 70 feet, 3 3/4 inches. Jatsek has earned All-American honors three-consecutive seasons (2007 indoor weight throw, 2007 outdoor hammer, 2008 indoor weight throw). Jatsek joins Keturah Lofton (2004, 2006) and Katy Craig (2001-02) as the only Ohio State throwers to earn All-American honors twice in the weight throw while Jatsek and Criag are the only OSU throwers to pull it off in back-to-back seasons. As Jatsek heads into the outdoor season she will look to become the first Ohio State thrower to earn All-American honors in four-consecutive seasons.

With the points from Jatsek the Ohio State women's track and field team finished tied for 39th at the 2008 Indoor NCAA Championships. Ohio State has had a thrower earn All-American honors in the weight throw in three-consecutive seasons. Since 2000, the OSU women's team has had 17 indoor All-Americans and 31 total.
Lenny and Veronica are the first pair of Ohio State siblings competing in track & field to earn All-American honors in the same event in the same season. Both Jatsek siblings have earned indoor All-American honors at least twice. Veronica has earned All-American honors a total of three times with her outdoor All-American honor in 2007 in the hammer throw.

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio State women's track and field team opens the 2008 outdoor season this weekend in Austin, Texas on the campus of the University of Texas in the 81st Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays. The event will be held Thursday-Saturday, April 3-5.

THE RETURN OF GRIFFIN

Jenna Harris returns for her final season as a Buckeye in the 2008 outdoor season. She returns to the team as Jenna Griffin after her marriage over the summer to former Ohio State sprinter Joel Griffin. Jenna Griffin holds the Ohio State school record in the indoor 400-meter dash. She also holds the fourth and fifth-best times in Ohio State history in the 100-meter dash and holds the fourth and sixth-best times in OSU history in the 200-meter dash. Griffin is a three-time Big Ten champion and earned All-America honors in the 2007 indoor season in the 400-meter dash.
