2006 Spring Game info/discussion

What a great game. Lots of players stood out, but Richardson was a force off the end and was very quick for a big guy. Our defense may have some growing pains early, but what a talented group the coaches have to work with.

Ah, the fruits of good recruiting.:oh: :io:

Its nice to see that Abdallah and Delinger both had good games and are improving. After this year we lose Patterson, Pitcock, and Penton, our best 3 defensive tackles, so its really important that they continue to improve so that they can be the "guys" in '07.

Things that stood out in my mind... I saw a lot of linebackers running all over the place... it's going to be wide open competition for those three starting slots and a long time before anyone, at any school, sees the likes of Hawk, Carpenter and Schlegel again.

Antonio Pittman was seen heading for the weight room by the middle of the 2nd quarter. There's going to be a real battle for PT at running back.

Lots of good hands at the receiver spots, but once you get past Smith there's not a QB who could consistently put the ball in the receiver's hands. Brian Hartline gets open a lot and catches anything near him.

The hitters (d linemen) were ahead of the protectors... especially with Datich and others out.

And my-oh-my is Chris Wells a load. I think they limited his play to keep the linebackers healthy. You had to feel sorry for Dionte Johnson when they lined up in the I. Doesn't seem fair to ask him to block for someone twice his size.

My take is probably the same as everyone elses.. but few things I did notice that i havn't seen posted.. Schlegel was sporting a tressel sweater vest with no undershirt, Troy calling plays and giving instructions to robbie and then watching robbie convert 3rd and long and a 4th down on these plays, every article i read says Troy had 60 yards passing.. i thought he had around 30 (scoreboard in the north endzone said 33 i think after the first drive) .. we got probably the most team speed I have ever seen at Ohio State.

Smith's TD drive was 80 yards. I don't think 50 came on rushing.

The North scoreboard was being sketchy yesterday. The time clock was flickering in the second quarter, and they shut off the game stats after halftime. Wouldn't be surprised if they weren't accurate when they were up.

I do know that the first pass to Nicol covered about 23 yards on its own.

I noticed there was a significant discrepancy between yards gained and yards recorded from the first drive on.

Not sure of the cause of it, but Smith was certainly clinical and productive on that first drive.

ESPN interview with Lil' Animal, Richardson, and Kerr. Talks about us being favorites to win a national championship and how our defense looked at the spring game.

it's on this page, I'd post a link to the media but it's a javascript. Just look at the espn motion on the right side.

Box score also has no punts inside the 20 but Trapasso had one downed inside the one with some beautiful coverage. That was a big play since the next play Denlinger got some excellent penetration and smothered Mo Wells for a safety and two points.

ok cool, yea i know i didn't see 60 yards on there after the first drive.. but they did start from the 20 and he hit nicol acoss the middle early for what 15-25 yards?

Another question, in regaurds to TG's post about attendence.. i know kids got in free from whatever age down.. did they get tickets (for free obviously) or could they just walk in?

well i didnt think the stadium ever got really loud and it was nowhere near a game like experience but the place was packed for a spring game. id say A/AA were basically full, B was 95% full, and there were prolly close to 50% of so in C deck so it was a big turnout. i just wanted to mention that i was really impressed buy some of the guys that dont get much recognition. joe gant(sp?) was a good solid runner and made some nice moves to get a couple yards. dan potokar ran some great routes and made some good catches and devon lyons got a catch in. robiskie and hartline both had great games. they definitely have a great future
