When I think about Pittman and Wells in the backfield, I think Bush and White. We will need to control the ball next year. We will have a good offensive line. Imagine Smith, Pittman, and Wells in a backfield. Then think about how stopping that on the ground opens up the passing game.

Wow.

I believe you will see Troy's runs reduced to scrambles, a little option and a rare QB draw next year as there is no longer a need to have him be a focus of the running game.

I love the idea of Haw or Wells being the second kickoff returner with Ginn. I think either could do that job nicely. I always liked having an RB back there.

I believe this offense will be very versatile next year, much like the second half of the year where we spent a lot of time in the spread and a lot of time in the eye. I like Pittman gets most of the spread time with M Wells spelling him there a little. I think Pittman and C Wells split time in the eye.

The one thing Chris Wells does do if he really is lights out from the get go is he will allow you more flexibility around moving Ginn to CB. If we are running more eye, and running the ball in general more, then it will be easier for Teddie to take some plays off at WR and let them run with Gonzo, Hall and Dukes at WR. The need in the defensive backfield, having lost all four starters, is going to be so great that it might finally be time to give Ginn a shot back there (I know Mili doesn't agree). But I can see Ginn getting 20-30 snaps on offense, 20-30 snaps on defense and all the special teams snaps.

Not sure how you could say that Troy was really a focus of the running game this year. Pittman ran for over 1,300 yards. A majority of Troys runs, especially late in the season were from him "creating" yardage as the pocket broke down around him, or when he saw an opportunity to make a play with his legs. I don't think many of his runs were by design, and I don't look for that to change next season. One of the things that makes him so dangerous is his ability to get those yards, if need be, as he moves outside of the pocket.

Also at this point, I would say its pretty clear that Teddy is a WR, not a CB. As everybody saw in the Fiesta Bowl, he is too much of a threat from everywhere on the field to not have out there almost every down. I really think that was his "coming-out party" as a reciever. I don't see him making a switch back to CB at this juncture.

There was a thread speculating about the wishbone formation for the Fiesta Bowl.

I don't think we'll put in the wishbone, but an option look from the I-formation (or split backs) with Wells and Pittman would be a challenge for defenses to stop. Wells up the middle as the first option, then Troy on the edge deciding whether to keep it or pitch it to Pittman. With a play-action package from the same formation, it would be tough to handle.

Pittman will be the starter, end of discussion.

I heard that idiot Lemming make the comment and just brushed it off as douchebagedness.

BTW, am I the only who thought that it looked like Lemming had a face lift?

Pittman started to come into his own after Tressel got comfortable w/ giving him carries in goal line situations, I think to take that away from him now, would be a step backwards. Maybe not, but Pittman is the guy in all situations, until he loses it.

I think we should take a page from Texas' playbook, and let everyone play. Let the other team dictate how they want to be beaten. Stack the box? Ok, run Pittman or M. Wells outside. Playing soft against the spread? Put in C. Wells for some nice up-the-gut running. And if they get real tricky, don't be afraid to put in 2 at once, maybe Pittman and C. Wells as split-backs.

Not having seen Haw play that much I wonder what other people thing of using him as a safety valve receiver/screen receiver? When I did see him he seemed to have the kind of speed and size I'd want when trying a screen play, but I have no idea if he can catch or not.

I really like the idea of using Haw and M. Wells in the return game. Perhaps use M. Wells and Ginn Jr. as the punt returners and Haw and Ginn Jr. as the Kick off returners.

It gets them in the game. Uses their speed and athleticism, spreads the wealth around, and let's them contribute in a significant way as teams will kick away from Ginn.

I'm not sure about Mo Wells as a punt returner. From what I saw of him this year, he seems like more of a juker, which doesn't always seem to be the best idea for a return man. I would like to see Gonzo get a shot. More of a get-and-go type player. Just my opinion. :)

I agree, Kueller, look at Texas. They have 3 very good young RBs, and work all of them into the games. Fresh legs and changes of pace / style can really throw off a defense.

Unless C Wells enrolls early, it's going to be hard for him to be the #2 by the 1st game, because of the blocking responsibilities and such that JT insists you have down before seeing the field. THAT'S the real difference between M Wells and Haw last year - Mo picked that stuff up much faster and was a much better blocker onpassing situations - plus haw was in the doghouse early on.
I do think that C Wells is going to score a bunch of TDs, though. His 3rd TD yesterday was amazing. That's what we've definitely been missing the last 3 years is the guy who can stick it in down close, even when you have it defensed well.

T Smith has to be licking his chops, thinking about all the deep balls that are going to be open next year with the great running game we will have.
