eh. I think the media portrays it that way for alot of it. Haev to realize the reason many of us despise him and his team is in large part because they are the Media Darlings. Not their fault, just easy press I guess.

Ohio State's Smith wins 72nd Heisman in landslide

Troy Smith is Ohio State's first Heisman winner since Eddie George in 1995 and the first Big Ten quarterback to win the award.

NEW YORK (AP) -- For Ohio State and Troy Smith, it's been that kind of year.
The Buckeyes were No. 1 from start to finish and their star quarterback had no real challenger in winning the Heisman Trophy.
Smith was a runaway winner Saturday night as the best player in college football, just two years after nearly derailing his career by taking money from a booster.

The senior quarterback moved to the front of the Heisman race in September with a flawless performance against Texas and finished off a perfect regular season by throwing four touchdown passes against Michigan.

Now, there's only one thing left for Smith to do: Beat Florida for the national championship on Jan. 8.

"Normally, I'm pretty cool in pressure situations, but my heart is pounding really fast now," Smith said.

"I'm at a loss for words. I just can't believe this is happening. ... It means everything. Just to be here in this situation. I love everybody back home in Columbus."

Like so many of the victories Smith has led the Buckeyes to this season, the Heisman win was a rout.

He received 801 first-place votes, the second most ever, and 1,662 points more than second-place finisher Darren McFadden of Arkansas, making it the second-most lopsided Heisman vote. Only O.J. Simpson's 1,750-point victory in 1968 was more onesided.

Notre Dame quarterback Brady Quinn was third and West Virginia running back Steve Slaton was fourth.

BTW, to clear up votes and records - Troy has the highest percentage ever of 1st place votes.
His total vote tally is exactly 1 point below the total votes amassed by Reggie Bush last year.
It is also the 2nd highest margin of victory (behind the owner of a White Bronco, currently residing in Florida).

But yeah anyways, very very very BIG Congrats to Troy and everyone closely involved in his life. This award is not only his, but an award for all of those who helped raise and change his life.

Without Ginn Sr, Tress, The Irvin's, like he said...this isn't possible. So congrats to them as well...and his mother/sister.

But yeah, I was here at work and made it VERY clear to my co-workers I was taking an hour break, and to not bother me, and that i'd make it up to them...that I was not going to miss this ceremony. And boy am I glad I didn't.

Most people would laugh at me for saying so, but I wouldn't have wanted to grow up anywhere else than here in Northeast Ohio. Snow sucks, but least we got the bucks!

We also have the greatest high school football in the country.
I was really pleased that Corso made sure and mentioned that Quinn is a product of Ohio where so many great players come from.:oh: :io:

I agree for the most part but I honestly do think he's a little to arrogant/cocky. He seems like a sore loser.

Seriously, where are you guys getting this? He was the first to congratulate Troy on the win and it sure looked legit to me. Brady is a hell of a player and has put up with a ton at ND. His accomplishments are very impressive and I expect he will succeed at the next level.

Back on topic - Congrats to Troy! You make me proud to be an alumnus and Buckeye fan. :osu:

I obviously don't know the guy. For all I know, he could be one of the friendliest people you'll ever meet. But from what I've seen(interviews, games, award ceremony) he is a sore loser.

Not so much I think, they are more likely taking this in a fairly pragmatic fashion - they knew Quinn was out of the voting, pretty much from the Michigan ND game on (let alone the Georgia Tech nail-biter). They have had the better part of 3/4 of a season to come to terms with Quinn being down on the charts, after Troy took the reins of Heisman power firmly in hand with his performance against Texas.

I can't believe that Quinn ended up 3rd.....after winning the Maxwell....lately that award has been going to the runner-up of the Heisman....I bet alot of people were surprised by that one....
