2004 Spring Practice (official thread)

A. I hope there's a big difference between Doug Datish and Tyree considering Tyree has been bounced around between DL, FB, and OL.

B. If everybody's been raving about Schlegal, how does this prove them wrong? Just because the senior players chose him last? I bet we could look back and find some cases when the players made picks that look absurd in retrospect(just like you could find my opinions the same way, or anybody's for that matter).

Here's Bucknuts' writeup for last year's Spring game draft. It's important to note that once a player from a position is selected, teams have to finish out that position. I also found it very interesting that Troy Smith was picked before Justin Zwick last year too.

Wo will you be watching the closest

Who will you be focusing in on tommorow. I think I'll be focusing in on Kudla, Whitner, EJ Underwood, And the Olinemen. I figure there will be enough people breaking down the qb play. I can't wait. I hope to see some of you. If you see someone wearing a Kent State hat with three kids and a wife in tow It'll most likely be me. Feel free to introduce yourselves I'd love to put some faces with the names. See you all later.

KSB - My son's travel baseball team begins the season tomorrow, so I'll be watching/coaching some baseball. I'm counting on you and everyone else to fill me in on things since my cable company doesn't provide ONN, hence I can't even tape it. Enjoy!

The punters. Huston showed me the most at the kick scrimmage but didn't get as many kicks as Turano and Trapasso.

Oh, and Turano or whoever is holding place kicks. Turano looked a little shaky, and Trapasso looked like an absolute disaster.

Even if Trapasso wins the punter job, I don't think there is any way Tress will trust the holder job to a true frosh. I kinda like to see Troy Smith get in on that though. With all the things he can do on a fake or a broken play, it would keep the D honest and take some heat off the linemen and Nuge. If I were going, I would keep an eye on the CBs, MLBs, and OL. I can't make it to C-bus anymore since I have business to handle at home. Drink one for me at your tailgates, guys!

Offense/Defense Players of Spring game

I watched the Spring Game on ONN today and was impressed with Tony Pittman on offense and Thomas Matthews on defense. I also was chasing a 17 month old around the house so I may have missed some big plays by other players, so tell me who gets your game ball.

Pittman went for 105 on 21 carries...Not bad!

Zwick was 16-26 for 165
Smith was fricken awful and he threw for 53 yards....The Grey had -30 something in rushing but Parker was hurt. Even the sideline reporter on 1460 said that Smith was awful and that he hadn't grasped a "very basic offense" that was used today.

Not to say that Zwick was amazing but certainly better than Smith.

Whitner, Schlegel and Matthews played well as did John Hollins.

Defense; Ashton Youboty looked good. Gonna have to rewatch it and look for Underwood, i only remember the one hit he made on Holmes. Matthews also looked good.

Offense; Pittman ran really well. Not sure about his pass blocking as i wasnt looking for it

good turnout at the game today. I thought in my drunken haze Bam Childress looked good, along with Pittman on an offense. The crowd in the part of the stadium I was setting at was getting pretty frustrated with Troy.

Troy Smith did not look good today but he wasn't able to run and the Gray offensive line was horrible. Not sure how much you can take away from today's performance considering those factors.

Pittman did look awfully good. Gotta love the burst and he doesn't hesitate which I love. Thomas Matthews was awfully impressive out there. Richardson looked good. Cotton made a nice play early getting by Mangold but kinda went away as the game went on. Rehring was getting beat pretty bad on the outside. I'm not sure if left tackle is in his future.
