I have to pick Alex Smith over Benson.

Alot of people have said such and such wouldn't be where they are without a certain player..well, Utah was the first non-BCS school to make the BCS and finished top 6 with a team that wouldn't even win their own conference without Smith.

Smith's stats measure up with anyone and he's the most important to his teams success without a doubt.

Alex Smith = Heisman

Closest year I can remember, with 9 good candidates. (8 listed plus Rodgers).

My vote would be:

1. Alex Smith
2. JJ Arrington
3. Cedric Benson

My prediction is:

1. Leinart
2. White
3. Peterson

My vote would go to either Leinart or Bush, with a slight nod to Leinart. Matt Leinart has done a great job this year, even though most of his offensive line from last year is gone and he has a young and inexperienced WR corps.

If I had to choose between White or Peterson from UO, I'd take Jason White. Everyone has heaped the praise on Peterson for his performance against Texas, but (aside from just the 12-0 score) that game was pretty much dominated by UO all day regardless of AP's performance. White on the other hand was the reason why UO beat us here in Stillwater and Texas A&M in College Station. If you take White out of that offense, they're very mediocre. Take Peterson out (like A&M did), and they'll still win.

I'm not sure about that, but here are the only times 1 team had 2 of the top 3 finishers:

1944:
1. Les Horvath, tOSU
2. Glenn Davis, Army
3. Doc Blanchard, Army

1945:
1. Doc Blanchard, Army
2. Glenn Davis, Army (Note: Davis won in 1946, 1 win and 2 second-places!)
3. Bob Fenimore, Oklahoma A&M (now Okla St.)

1972:
1. Johnny Rodgers, Nebraska
2. Greg Pruitt, Oklahoma
3. Rich Glover, Nebraska (nose tackle)

In 1973, tOSU had 3 of the top 6.
John Hicks (2nd), Archie Griffin (5th) and Randy Gradishar (6th)

Bush should win, but I think Leinart will win.

His numbers are almost identical to White's, save for a few garbage TDs Jason got while the Sooners ran it up on everyone they could (who fakes a FG while up by 28 in the first half anyways!!!). White had, I believe, most of his line returning. Leinart had at least 3 new starters on the line. White had a deep core of WRs. Leinart lost his top 2 targets from last year. Leinart did the same amount as White while working with less. Give him the trophy and keep Archie's record safe.

I don't think they would hav given it to him. I think Fitzgerald would have won hands down.

That's a great point you make. IIRC, Leinart was a Heisman hopeful last year, but people were downplaying Leinart's Heisman hopes last year because he'd have another 1-2 years to win it, all while thinking White's Heisman career was at an end.

Benson is a great back; he played in an offense where you knew that he was going to be getting the ball a majority of the time, the toughest thing was stopping him, and not many can say that they have.
