Game Thread (2004) Bowl Game: MasterCard Alamo Bowl - Oklahoma State - 12/29/04 (W, 8-4/4-4)

Hooray! I like Herbie anyway, but this is about the best news I've heard all day. It sure as heck beats Mark Jones and Bob Davie. I don't normally have a problem with those two, but since the whole MoC/ESPN machine began, Mark Jones has had a woody for OSU's perceived wrong-doings. I mean geez, how many times did that bum bring up the football program last night during the OSU/Clemson Men's B-Ball game?

Jones and Davie are the normal broadcast team for the Alamo Bowl. I wonder if the switch to Mike, Lee and Kirk is in response to all the hate mail ESPN has undoubtedly been receiving. They must know what side their bread is buttered on, being that the OSU games were consistently their highest rated football broadcasts on ESPN all season. Maybe they switched crews so that the fans would actually tune in?

At least now we won't be subjected to Jones's and Davie's butchering of the entire rosters' names ... and might even be spared a Santonio/San Antonio reference with competent people on the job.

Only on an OSU board would Herbie get more love than Jill Arrington...
I wonder if Kirk ever gets any grief from Mrs. Herbstreit that he's spending his Wednesdays through Sundays with Jill?

Jill sure seems to enjoy putting her hands on him when they do those Home Depot play walkthroughs on GameDay.

As far as I know, and correct me, if I'm wrong, Herbstreit is the only one of us to have played four seasons for tOSU. That doesn't make him more of a Buckeye supporter than BP members, but it does make him something none of us will ever be and deserves a great deal of respect. In my book, it also gives him the benefit of most doubts as to his loyalty and opinions about the Buckeye football team.

Arrington is haaaaat.

Oh, uh, back on topic...I think Herbie is fine...and I look forward to him calling the game.

Am I the only one who thinks Melissa Stark is nothing special?

My v$$$ says Herbie is damn stoked to be calling the game. I would even bet that he is taking the family down to San Antonio for a little vacation too.

All that said the real bet would be the over under on how many times Holmes gets called SanAntonio.

Sheesh, even Musburger and Danielson both called him that during The Game. At least Holmes will be playing in a town he was named after. :roll1:

I like him too. Has he ever called a game before? I've never heard him do it- it will be interesting to see how he does.
Almost every ESPN Thursday night game is called by Herbstreit, Corso, and Tirico.

Every page of this thread should have Jill Arrington's picture on it.

I don't mind Erin Andrews either :)

Anyway...if Herbie ever starts making sure he is pro-tOSU on everything while working for ESPN, then I will lose respect for him. Herbie is a Buckeye. Herbie just isn't a Buckeye, he is a Centerville Elk! Did ya know that? He's a pretty popular guy here in Centerville, and he is a Buckeye. But he's able to do his job without getting the fact that he is a Buckeye in the way. I respect that because I have to do the same thing as a umpire. I've umpired college baseball, but never have done a tOSU game. If I do ever do a tOSU game in the future, i'm not going to be biased towards tOSU. Herbie is very good at seperating his profession and the rest of his life...and that makes for a very good unbiased analysis. The only time I have seen Herbie crack is during the Fiesta Bowl. Not just because he picked the Buckeyes, but you could tell during Gameday's pregame that he was just talking straight from the heart and was completely biased. I like that though, because it was probably the biggest game for tOSU in Herbie's lifetime.
