Game Thread #2 tOSU at #3 Oregon, Sat. Oct. 12, 7:30 pm ET, NBC

The good news is that there doesn't appear to be an elite team outside of maybe Texas. OSU can beat everybody else on a neutral field.
Can but has no track record of doing it under this HC and especially with his DC

Edit: not meaning to be overly negative, just trying to take any feelings out of it and look at the facts.

Only positives to take from this are that Oregon got 2 extra possessions with a fluke fumble and onside kick. That's difficult to overcome at their place.

The problem is Simmons might be done for the season, which is an enormous blow, and the defense is incredibly overrated. I love these guys and they play hard, but other than Williams and Downs, there aren't the difference makers we thought we'd see. A lot of experienced guys who have hit their ceiling but still don't play disciplined or tackle.

Tired of seeing these supposedly generational teams underachieving and winning nothing.

Yes, but I don't think there is anybody this year as good as UGA, Alabama, scUM teams that Day lost to.
Oregon just proved it is, Texas might be, Georgia perhaps, Bama perhaps. But I really don't think our focus should be the National Championship. We've got something to prove the last Saturday of November. Do that and what happened today and what happens in December/January will be an afterthought.

I'd trade Williams for Hall right now 100 times out of 100.

Hall would at least collapse the pocket in the middle and get pressure that way. Williams didn't and hasn't.

Ultimately, this game doesn't have a big impact on the goals. Lost by 1 point on the road to the #3 team with a chance to win it on the last drive. All the goals are still attainable. But anybody that feels like we're any closer to shaking Ryan Day's big game bugaboo, I wish I could get there. The same hallmarks were there - defense cannot get stops when needed, and I'm sorry, but that last drive was the onfield personification of my issues with Ryan Day...take a sack on the first play, a Shugarts, an OPI (don't care how soft it was, you cannot let the refs have any margin to throw laundry there), and lastly mismanaging the clock. They 100% should have won that game, but couldn't get out of their own way. Players take on the essence of their coach. In the big moment, they made too many mistakes.

Anyway, it is what it is. On to the next one...
