Clemson is a complete unknown this year. No one knows exactly how good they are...makes me nervous.
But we do know that they can be slowed down significantly. TAMU (finished #37 in scoring defense, 22.7 ppg) held them to 24 points in Death Valley, and UNC (finished #51 in scoring defense, 24.6 ppg) held them to 21 points at their place.

Currently watching the ACC championship game. The Clemson O and D lines don’t look nearly as dominant as they were in ‘16. I’m not nearly as nervous as I was before that game.

Edit: tackle well, limit YAC, confuse Trevor and don’t give him a lot of time. Do this and we’ll win.

Going to have to mix man and zone because slants have killed them. If they are able to complete those 3 step drops consistently, it'll be a long night. And the other DEs must step up.

So we're going with "Dildo Swhiney" right?

Love how "dildo" makes it into these threads all the time. :slappy:

the early part of the game, at least, Virginia was able to move the ball well, they just could not stop Clemson at all on offense. I expect Clemson to look at the PSU and Wiscy games for their ideas and the way the PSU backup QB and Coan were able to run up the gut on designed draws and busted plays. Lawrence is a lot stronger than either of those guys. I like our chances to limit their other weapons, although I expect they will score on our defense, but if we can pressure Lawrence without overrunning him, we should be in good shape. I think Fields being 100% and able to run some is going to be critical if we are going to win.

Never forget Dabo’s response to the ostarine PED scandal that Clemson promptly swept under the rug:

“Oh yeah, I mean, there’s a chance that it could come from anything,” Swinney told The Post and Courier in February. “They’re going to test everything and look at everything. And that’s the problem. As you really look at this stuff, it could be a contaminant that came from anything, that was something that was cleared and not a problem, and all of a sudden, it becomes there was something.”

That there is a man that takes institutional control seriously.

The question is whether Mattison and Hafley can confuse Trevor. Per people on the inside (or with connections to the inside), the reason Clemson struggled through the first half this year up until North Carolina was because they "threw the book" at Trevor with offense install, as he'd basically operated last year with a limited offense and only making half-field reads. The Clemson staff was willing to accept more early INTs against inferior competition they knew they could out-talent if it advanced Trevor Lawrence's ability to read defenses by the time the CFP rolled around. Looks like their gamble paid off.
