Woody disagrees...

When it comes to running a football program in the mid-20th century, Woody is the man. If I ever were to ask someone’s opinion about clothing, he wouldn’t be the guy. Who knows though; I’m certain to die before I care enough about clothing to ask for someone’s opinion, so maybe I will ask him.

Wouldn’t be surprised if Day sticks to the same game plan that’s worked all year.

Run it down their fucking throats. Let the 3 interior lineman continue to eat and just mash them sumbitches.

I also see Fields running it 18+ times to keep the chains moving.

I think a lot of this game relies on Fields leg being close to 100% and staying good. He wasn't taking the free yardage as efficiently as before he got it banged up. Day confirmed it wasn't healed after the B10 CG. It becomes considerably harder to defend this offense when they have to also worry about contain on Fields.

I think the key to beating Clemson is playing man-to-man lockdown coverage against their receivers, especially Higgins and Ross. If Ohio State can dominate the air, I think you guys win.

If Wade is healthy I think we will fare well against their passing threat. I think we can frustrate Clemson because they haven't been up against a stout D this year. If anything I'm more concerned with our offensive game plan than theirs and being prepared for in game adjustments. When we haven't opened a game great we have regrouped at the half but with a team like Clemson if the offensive is flat and you get down 2 TDs the second half may not be enough time to claw it back.

Overall I feel pretty good. We have better team than 2016 and we don't have Beck as a boat anchor dragging down our offense.

I think Okudah, Arnette and Wade can do that. And Fuller and Proctor over the top. Their WRs will make some plays, but I think overall we man down the fort. Curious to see if we concede some yards on the ground with that passing threat though. I like our odds, but this is going to be a battle.

I heard none of the Clemson players pissed hot for PEDs the Fiesta Bowl. Did they up their doping skills or clean it up?

Last year they only tested 15 players IIRC and 3 got pinched. I read that Clemson claims they did over a 1,000 PED tests in house over a couple years and no positives but the NCAA tests a handful and hits the lotto?

I mentioned last year when they pissed hot that I have a friend who is in cycling. He pretty much said that we have cycling to thank for the PEDs, and in particular the science behind not getting caught. His impression of the Clemson kids pissing hot was that whoever was in charge of their cycles did bad math. The dosing and half-life of these compounds is so well understood at this point that if you get caught its bad math or someone intended for you to piss hot.

So, we’ve been talking about man coverage potentially being the difference (in a positive sense) but is there concern with playing too soft or deep of zone or something for a while and getting burned like we did early against UM and UW?

I think one of the issues for the early struggles against UM were we offered absolutely no respect for Shay and all the concern was about him running on us.

I still need to rewatch because I know we made adequate adjustments in both games but against UM we were bailed out by a lot of drops. Higgins and Ross probably wont.

That’s an interesting thought that I also considered while watching the tsun game. I’d have to go back and watch again, but I don’t think that we drastically changed coverage in the second half, and you’re right... I think that the soft coverage was a reflection of the respect (lack) for SP and their receivers. They played just about as well as they could have hoped for in the first half and then regressed to their mean in the second.

We also did play pretty soft coverage in the first half in the B1G CG. I think that a part of that was that JC wasn’t exactly known to be a dart thrower and we had Okuda sitting on the sidelines for most of the first half. There were a LOT of pitch and catch conversions in the first half that didn’t happen in the second due to coverage schemes.

I agree with you, I’d expect much tighter coverage in the next game.

Assuming the coaches won't underestimate that blonde lady Clemson has under center. Unfortunately, I haven't seen much of Clemson this year since they played Lloyd-Mann Elementary every week.

My biggest concern is Etienne. How the hell he and JK don't get the press they deserve blows my mind. Just a weird year that RBs are overshadowed by so many QBs.

Correct.

It’s one thing if it’s a couple buddies trying to get an edge. The 3 players were completely unrelated in position and experience - a star defensive lineman, a backup TE who was suspended until this week, and an offensive lineman. I entirely believe the players had no idea they were taking PEDs and it was merely rolled into their basic nutrition courtesy of the Clemson football staff.

If they don’t respect Lawrence schematically they deserve to shoulder a 25+ point loss. Dude could have been the first overall pick after his true freshman season and probably could again in 2020 if he were eligible. Everyone wants to play “omfz but schedulezzz and opponentzz” on repeat but barbie is a boss back there like it or not.

Honestly I hope we play zone... Clemson isn't a grind it out offense they are built on big plays. So keep everything infront of us and then that way we have eyes on Etienne because that's the true threat.

I'll be honest after initial confidence I'm concerned about their offense more so than any team we've ever matched up with. We have got to stop Etienne to have any shot whatsoever in stopping their offense.
