and i think that conley will be that guy eventually, like when psu whent on a 22-7 run and osu needed a score or some kind of spark he came down penetrated and scored, he can do that at will he needs to realize that he has the power to do that, and understand what that does for the team.

The young guys played well in this game it was the upperclassmen who struggled. The young guns (Oden, Cook and Conley) all were shooting 50 percent or better the upperclassmen were all below 50 percent. It blows me away to watch Butler and Lewis combine for 23 shots and Oden only gets 8.
Spot on. No need to take oden out of the game, just give those two a 25 footer and hope they aren't hot.

Conley seemed to do a better job attacking their zone than butler as well.

Just re-watched the second half...

I will say that PSU was basically hitting all their shots in the second half, they also got to the line a couple times and knocked down their free throws...

We had some sloppy turnovers (Cook, Conley, Butler) that led to some easy baskets...

We started off the second half knocking down our 3's, then they stopped falling, we as spectators might think it looks like a bad shot, but how is it a bad shot when they had already made 2 or 3 earlier...

Also some will question why we werent getting the ball down to Oden, after looking at the second half again they were playing that zone with a guy fronting Oden and a guy behind him. Kinda hard to get it to him and a couple times we tried and they got their hands on the passes...

Either way PSU played probably their best half of their season in the second half, they scored 43 pts in the half. I would almost bet they havent got that many points in many halfs this season. They were hitting off balanced 3's with hands in their faces, they were beating us up the court a couple times...

Either way it is a learning experience, but after watching it, you really have to tip your hat to the way that PSU played in the second half and you can see that there are things that we will for sure look at on film...

they were running that same 2-3 zone some in the first half, it wasn't as successful osu's guards were doing a better job of penetrating, and attacking the zone instead of standing around like they did in the second half waiting on someone else to make a play.

Nope they switched to a 1-3-1 in the second half extened it and fronted the post with a guy always in the back to not allow the lob...

We did penetrate a couple times, one time Conley kicking the ball off his foot and 2 or 3 other times we missed 12 foot jumpers one by Butler and one by Lewis that I can remember off the top of my head...

they kept switching back and forth in the second half between those two zones they even ran a little man which is a good idea to never let you get comfortable in your offense.

Yeah, but most of it was 1-3-1 principles, that is why we were seeing the backside wing on the backside of Oden and the corner shots seemed to be open, where Harris went 1-3 when he shot his 3 open shots from the corner...

Don't remember seeing much man, was it for a possession or two?

yeah it was only like twice and it looked like after the first pass they jumped into the 1-3-1.

I see, just really a disguise to the 1-3-1...

Either way we didnt do a good job of recognizing the defenses and breaking them down...

This really comes down to Conley and Butler as the PG's that need to recognize this and try and penetrate the gaps...

The only time we ever tryed anyone at the high post was when Lighty was in, but he never got the ball in there...

yeah it seemed like they had a good defensive scheme in the second half and i don't think that osu ever got in the right set for the zones. I think that the man straight into the 1-3-1 caused problem because Osu does a great job of screening against a zone when the ball is on the wing they screen the elbow and the block, and skip it wing to wing and get a lot of wide open looks. I just think that they were confused a little and instead of backing it out and resetting they would chuck one up or force it inside. Like you said they guard need to recognize that.

The 2nd half was a complete joke.

I agree with what has been said, this team needs a leader. The upperclassmen certainly aren't going to step up and become the leader to keep the freshmen in the game.

They really need to sort things out quick, or I dont' expect them to make it past the 2nd/3rd round of the tourney.

Buckeyes survive Penn State rally

Ohio State holds off the Nittany Lions, 64-62, to extend its winning streak to 10 in a row.

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. ? Ohio State coach Thad Matta hopes his team learned a valuable lesson after their latest too-close-for-comfort victory.
The inexperienced Buckeyes had a 21-point halftime lead and led by as many as 24 in the second half before letting the win nearly slip away.
