#Donning a purple helmet and shoulder pad-revealing gold practice jersey, Caleb Henderson displays his Division I-caliber right arm during a practice at Lake Braddock Secondary School. The rising junior fires passes to his receivers and moves the offense up and down the field.

#Last year, Henderson established himself as one of the top quarterbacks in the region during his sophomore season at West Potomac. After splitting time early in the 2011 campaign, Henderson became the full-time starter and thrived in the Wolverines? spread offense. Playing for his father, Head Coach Eric Henderson, Caleb passed for 2,403 yards and 27 touchdowns, rushed for 528 yards and four scores, and led West Potomac to a share of the Patriot District title and a berth in the region semifinals. He was named second-team all-region and appeared to have a bright future as the Wolverines? signal caller.

#Nine months later, Caleb Henderson, who has received scholarship offers from Michigan State, Virginia, Illinois and other colleges, is preparing for his junior season as the quarterback of the Lake Braddock football team, which won back-to-back Northern Region titles in 2009 and 2010. He and his brother, Jon, transferred to the Burke secondary school near the end of the 2011-12 school year after their father was informed he would not return as West Potomac head coach. The addition of Caleb Henderson to an already talented team would seem to make the Bruins one of the favorites to win the Northern Region in 2012.

Lake Braddock vs. Centreville: Wildcats stun No. 7 Bruins, 28-27

Lake Braddock fell behind 14-0 early, but seemed to bottle up Centreville's option running attack by the midway point of the second quarter. Plus it found some offense of its own. Behind two touchdown passes by strong-armed junior quarterback Caleb Henderson, a transfer from West Potomac, the Bruins (0-1) reeled off the next three scores and looked like they had stolen away all of the momentum.

Henderson finished 16 of 27 for 218 yards and two touchdowns.

But Henderson also threw a costly interception at Centreville's 8-yard line with just under four minutes to play that Turner returned to the Wildcats' 44. A mistake on an attempted punt on Lake Braddock?s previous possession - the punter fielded a bad snap that made him drop to one knee at his own 31-yard line and turn the ball over to Centreville at that spot on downs - also proved costly and gave the Wildcats great field position.

2014 QB to make an early decision?

Michigan State has made an offer to one quarterback for 2014: Caleb Henderson of Lake Braddock High School in Virginia. The 6-foot-4, 225-pound Henderson, who has 30 scholarship offers, is one of the top recruits in the nation for next year.

Henderson has made it clear that he favors playing in the Big Ten and would like to get away from home. Ohio State has long been viewed as the favorite for Henderson, but the offense the Buckeyes run under coach Urban Meyer is not a great fit for a pro-style prospect.

Henderson has indicated he wants to make an early decision so he can help recruit other players to his school of choice.

Henderson plans on making another trip to East Lansing in the coming weeks to learn more about the Spartans. If things go well, Michigan State could become the team to beat for his services. The fact that the last three MSU quarterbacks moved on to the NFL is a positive factor in Henderson's recruitment.

Lake Braddock junior quarterback Caleb Henderson continues to weigh his scholarship offers, a list that is likely to grow soon based on discussions that various coaches have had with Henderson and his father, Eric, in recent weeks.

Eric Henderson, who handles the bulk of the recruiting to save his son the distraction, divides the conversations and correspondence into roughly three categories ? firm offers, schools that are actively recruiting Henderson but have not yet extended offers and another group that is more loosely involved in pursuing him.

The firm offers are from Michigan State, Illinois, Marshall, Virginia, Maryland and Old Dominion.

Among the other schools showing interest are Ohio State, whose campus Henderson plans to visit in March. The Hendersons also plan to see Miami and Tennessee soon and North Carolina again. They planned to meet with Virginia Coach Mike London again this week.

Purdue would like Henderson to visit campus. Wisconsin has weighed in. Rutgers, West Virginia, Pitt, Tennessee and Penn State have dropped by Lake Braddock frequently. The Hendersons met with Maryland Coach Randy Edsall last week and have been to North Carolina and Duke. They plan to go to Wake Forest. Arizona made contact Tuesday, and Florida State is involved as well.

?I think it will start to shake out as we get into May when the recruiters are able to get back in the schools again,? said Eric Henderson, dean of students at Lake Braddock and the football team?s defensive coordinator.
