The Ohio State Buckeyes, though, would likely land a commitment from Barnett if they offered, as Barnett seems to be high on them already. It is telling that all five 247Sports analysts have chosen Ohio State as the team to land Barnett over Tennessee and Vanderbilt, and it will be interesting to see if the Buckeyes offer.

Can he grow into a DT? If he can and maintain that speed and athleticism I love this offer.

My thought was immediately DT as well. It seems like the staff may be targeting two in the class?

It would be nice to land an elite DT like Andrew Brown plus a camp offer guy (I assume he will be asked to camp to earn an OFFER) like Barnett.

Brentwood Academy defensive end Derek Barnett, one of the state's top football prospects, committed to Tennessee on Wednesday.

He has 17 offers, including eight Southeastern Conference schools.

Rivals.com ranks him as the state's No. 6 prospect, 235th nationally and No. 11 at his position.

The 6-foot-4, 267-pound senior won the Division II-AA Mr. Football lineman award last year.

Vanderbilt, Tennessee, LSU and Ohio State are among the schools recruiting him.

Barnett's grandfather, Gerald Kasunic, played for Woody Hayes at Ohio State and lettered there from1963-64.
