Gareon Conley working teammate Devers

By Jared Shanker | ESPN.com

MASSILLON, Ohio -- Michigan?s 2013 class is just about filled up, so Gareon Conley (Massillon, Ohio/Washington) has his eye on helping out the 2014 class. Specifically, he has an eye on one of his teammates.

?Nathaniel Devers,? Conley said when asked who he?s recruiting. ?He said he likes them. I keep telling him every day. He wears Ohio State shirts sometimes and I get mad at him and tell him you can?t wear that shirt if you want to go Michigan.?

As 86 so aptly avers, it's the easiest way to get a Meatchicken offer. Unfortunately, it seems to be working. Some of our best are making their way to that school up north to matriculate, and play feetball.

I simply opine that which has already been said, I'd rather have a 4* Ahian than a 5* OOSer, if they've grown up on the Game, and bleed scarlet and gray. Unfortunately (as well), it's sometimes hard to differentiate. Cannot blame the young men, Meatchicken is a good school, and under Hoke, they are resurgent. A good education, and a team getting better, a hard combination to beat, so when added to an early opportunity to commit, they go for it. finally, with the level of talent that existed there after Rich Rod, an excellent chance to play quickly.

Not badmouthing Urban, so don't give me a yellow card (preliminary warning for being banned), but he may want to modify his methodology of recruiting in Ahia.....and send out 'non-commitable' offers to the best Buckeye players earlier than he's doing. :horse:

Hard to change. Urban offering any sooner is going to result in a lot more swing and misses on talent. Michigan has nothing to lose by offering super early. Hoke knows his talent needs upgrade at every spot do taking that chance is worth it and might even land some of Ohio's best in the process.

For the record, that (and the rest of your post) was not the direction I was going in with my comment.

If Ohio kids want an offer and don't have one they can camp at Ohio State and earn one (see: Darron Lee). If they don't want to do that for whatever reason or don't want to wait to do that in these recruiting cycles where offers are going out earlier and earlier than so be it.

I don't know why you keep harping on urban mainly recruiting Ohio. If a top oos talent wants to come to osu we should by all means let them. Are you saying that if robert nkemdiche or joey bosa wanted to come to osu and so did taco Charlton, you'd take Charlton because he's from Ohio? That's simply foolish. You seem more focused on just winning the game and the big 10, while urban is trying to win NCs. And to do that you need a mixture of in state and oos. Let the average Ohio kids go to scUM we don't need every Ohio kid on our team, just the elite ones. And try telling guys like Howard, roby, sabino, Hyde, Thomas, etc that they don't understand the meaning of "the game". That's just like saying guys who aren't from Alabama*but play for auburn or Alabama don't understand the iron bowl, once you decide to attend that school and put your blood, sweat and tears into training to get on ther field, you get it.

I'm going to echo pnuts comments and add that perhaps a recruits thread isn't the best place for these comments. The thread is about the recruit, not the recruiting philosophy of the staff.

Agreed. My apologies.

Massillon duo ready for OSU football
September, 10, 2012
By Brad Bournival | ESPN.com

Massillon, Ohio, has always been a football crazy town, but nothing prepared Washington High juniors Nathaniel Devers and Marcus Whitfield for what they saw Saturday.

On unofficial visits to Ohio State for the Buckeyes? 31-16 win over the University of Central Florida, the duo walked away wowed after their first trip to The Horseshoe.

?That place is wild,? Whitfield said. ?It was nuts. I walked down through that tunnel and looked around and the student section was packed. Everything was packed.?

Devers, an offensive guard for the Tigers, echoed that statement and was amazed by the atmosphere before, during and after the game.

?It was cool. It was pretty exciting,? Devers said. ?They showed how dedicated they were. It was raining before the game and the game was still sold out. It turned out to be a beautiful day.?

Looks like Tuberville has eased some tensions over at Massillon Washington since the Kyle Kempt ordeal earlier this year.
