JORDAN MICKEY LOOKING TO MAKE COLLEGE COMMITMENT IN LATE JULY

June 16, 2012 by NBE Blogger

by Alex Schwartz

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. ? Jordan Mickey of Grace Prep in Arlington (TX) is one of the better frontcourt prospects in the nation in the class of 2013.

A 6-foot-7, 215-pound power forward, Mickey is a long and athletic player with some major upside. It is clear that colleges agree that the Texan is a talented prospect, as he is being looked at by schools across the country.

On Friday at the NBPA Top 100 High School Basketball Camp, Mickey said he holds scholarship offers from Louisville, Ohio State, West Virginia, Providence, Kansas, Texas, Florida State, Texas A&M, and Missouri. Additionally, he mentioned that he is receiving interest from Kentucky, Duke and North Carolina.

Mickey has gone on a recent visit spree, taking trips to Louisville, Ohio State, West Virginia, and Kentucky.

Jordan Mickey Looking to Trim List; Louisville, Ohio State Likely to Get Officials
By Adam Zagoria on June 27, 2012

Jordan Mickey, one of the top forwards in the Class of 2013 out of Arlington (TX) Grace Prep, is taking a summer tour of various schools and looking to trim his list by the end of July.

His father, James Wright Mickey, told SNY.tv Wednesday that he and his son have already visited Kentucky, Louisville, Ohio State, West Virginia, SMU and Arkansas this month in between stops at adidas Nations, the NBA Top 100 Camp and the Amar?e Stoudemire Skills Academy.

They are currently at LSU because Jordan?s brother plays football there and plan to go back to SMU early next week.

Every school except Kentucky has offered a scholarship to the 6-foot-7 Mickey, ranked the No. 20 power forward by Rivals in the Class of 2013.

?[Kentucky coach John] Calipari said he was going to watch him a couple times in July,? James said. ?Everybody else has offered. Kentucky is the only school that we visited that hasn?t offered a scholarship.?

Several other schools ? including Kansas ? are also in the mix.

?We are also planning to do unofficials at Texas and Baylor and trying to work out our schedule to get to Alabama, Providence and Texas Tech,? James said.

?I don?t know if our schedule is going to permit it, but I?m hoping by September we have it narrowed down to our five official visits.?

At this stage, James said Louisville and Ohio State would ?probably? get officials based on their recent experiences there.

James and Jordan were especially impressed with Louisville coach Rick Pitino on the visit.

?Louisville was great,? James said. ?Coach Pitino is a phenomenal coach. Throughout most of our visit, he?s so hands on.

?Coach Pitino and [SMU coach] Larry Brown are phenomenal coaches and what impressed us about both of these guys is their energy level. They go and go and go. Their passion for basketball has not changed.?

The family lives about 10 minutes from SMU and plans to get out there again early next week ?just to give [Jordan] an opportunity to get to know coach Brown and see if the chemistry sparks there.?

Ohio State also figures strongly and is likely to get an official.

?Louisville and Ohio State all did great jobs with their visits,? James said. ?The chemistry was definitely there. Those are places that we?re probably going to get in to our official visits.?

Three Schools Certain to Make Mickey?s Final List
By Adam Zagoria on August 11, 2012

NEW YORK ? Three schools are almost certain to make Jordan Mickey?s final list of five or six schools, his father told SNY.tv Saturday night.

?Ohio State definitely is in; Louisville and SMU are definitely making the cut,? James Wright Mickey said at the Big Strick Classic before his son went for 13 rebounds, 5 points, 4 blocks and 2 assists as the USA team beat the NYC team, 87-86, at the City College of New York.

Mickey's dad reported a top-5 today of OSU, LSU, Oklahoma State, Arkansas and SMU. That's a 5 that you've got to feel somewhat optimistic about OSU's chances against. I'm not saying he's going to OSU, but I feel a lot better going against those 4 than the likes of Duke, UK, UNC and UCLA. SMU is the only in-state school in that 5, and they aren't a big-time basketball school by any stretch of the imagination. I felt like before he had a top-2 of OSU and Louisville, and it appears Louisville has backed off of him after adding another big man last week.

Supposedly the current plan they have is to set official visits after cutting the list down last month to 5-6 schools, which they did, and the in-home visits with all the schools on the list (ongoing). Prior articles were saying OSU and Louisville were going to get official visits, and that they were looking to decide at the end of July (obviously didn't happen after Louisville took themselves out of the race). Hard to say when a decision will be made, but I'm expecting it to come soon.

Don't understand why Louisville would quit recruiting a guy as talented as Mickey.

Mickey took an official to SMU last week, and has another to Oklahoma State this weekend. According to a ZagsBlog post today, he is quoted as saying he plans on deciding at the end of this month or early next month. An official visit to tOSU seems unlikely, he already visited unofficially. I believe the Oklahoma State visit will be his last before deciding.

Jordan Mickey Looking to Decide Soon

By Adam Zagoria on September 17, 2012

Jordan Mickey is down to five schools and looking to make a decision relatively soon.

?Probably the end of this month or the beginning of next month,? the 6-foot-9 Mickey, the Rivals No. 20 power forward in the Class of 2013 out of Arlington (Texas) Grace Prep, told SNY.tv Monday night.

As first reported by SNY.tv, he is considering Ohio State, LSU, SMU, Oklahoma State and Arkansas.

Mickey took an official to SMU last weekend.

?It went great,? he said. ?[Coach Larry Brown] was just telling me that he really wants me to be a part of his team next year and he?s looking forward to being able to see him in the next few weeks.?

Mickey trips to Oklahoma State for his final official this coming weekend. He is looking forward to ?see the campus more and talk to the players and talk to coach [Travis] Ford.?

Mickey said he?s not sure if he will visit Arkansas, but he?s already been to Ohio State and LSU.

?At Ohio State, I like coach [Thad] Matta and the coaching staff and the players,? he said. ?I got a chance to come in and win at that school.

?At LSU, coach [Johnny] Jones and his staff, I?m looking forward to playing with them.?

FWIW SMU makes me nervous. Not saying he goes there but Larry Brown is going to make that program special in the near future.
I am not saying that Mickey might not go there either but with regard to Larry and SMU I'm not really worried about them because Brown is getting a little long in the tooth. It will be interesting to see how he recruits the high school kids.
