I think a piece of my soul will die if he were to choose bleu here.

don't think you have to worry about that, I don't really think Michigan is that big of a player here. I wish they were though, because he is a heck of a WR prospect, best in the country imo.

When you mention Central Valley, one player comes to mind right away. Robert Foster.

Foster is the star senior receiver who has scholarship offers from across the country. Scouting services rank him among the top five receivers in the country. Foster narrowed his list of colleges to seven earlier this summer and said things are still at seven. He is adamant that he has no favorite. The seven are Pitt, Ohio State, Alabama, Michigan, Michigan State, USC and Oregon.

Robert_Foster_head_shotI asked him why he has Oregon on his final list, and even USC? I said there is no way a kid from Western Pa. will go to Oregon - or even USC.

"Terrelle Pryor kept putting Oregon on his finalists. There was no way he was going there. Nobody from around here is going that far," I said.

Foster just laughed. "You never know. I might."

**** Foster already was pretty good, but Central Valley coach Mark Lyons says Foster might be even better this year.

"You'd think maybe he couldn't be better, but he really is," Lyons said. "All the college scouts who came through in the spring all were pleasantly surprised on where he's at with his running routes. Our receivers coach [Adam Caltury] has done a great job with him. The speed is there and I think he's gotten thicker."

**** Lyons says Foster is a little naive when it comes to how good he is and also about the college recruiting. "There was one time this spring Oklahoma was supposed to come in to see him," Lyons said. "So I see him later in the day and I ask him if Oklahoma was in. He says, 'Are their colors red and white?' I tell him 'Yeah.' He says, 'Coach, are they Division I?'"

Below, Foster and teammates "stretch" things out.

Defensive back Robert Foster of Central Valley High School.

THE SCOOP

Foster is one of the most highly-touted receivers in the WPIAL in a long time. He is ranked the No. 2 receiver in the country by Scout.com, while SuperPrep magazine and Rivals.com rank him No. 4. Scout.com ranks him the No. 16 player overall in the country. Last year he caught 37 passes for 584 yards and scored 12 touchdowns. He's also extremely fast and an excellent safety and kick returner. Foster attended Monaca as a freshman before the school closed and merged with Center to form Central Valley.

COLLEGE TALK

Foster has scholarship offers from colleges across the country. One college coach said "he has speed like receivers in Florida and Texas." Earlier this summer, Foster narrowed his list of colleges to seven -- Pitt, Alabama, Ohio State, Michigan, Michigan State, Oregon and Southern California. He insists he has no favorite and isn't close to making a decision.

Your coach [Mark Lyons] said he thinks you might be even a little faster than a year ago. How could you get much faster? I was out here [at Central Valley's stadium] almost every day in the summer with our receivers coach [Adam Caltury]. He just pushed me through the summer and it was hot this summer. So I feel like I have more stamina and can run better this year.

You'll probably get double-teamed a lot this year, won't you? I'm expecting it, but like the coaches say to me, I'm a playmaker and I have to be able to make plays and use the gifts I have.

Will you guys be more of a throwing team this year? I think so. Our quarterback [Nathan Climo] is a very good athlete. He can throw the ball. I think he has potential to make plays, too.

Tell me something fun you did this summer? I worked hard and worked out on the field [laugh]. Anything to do with football was fun. We were down here at 4 o'clock almost every day in the summer -- fighting, sweating, bleeding, everything.

Watched Foster and Central Valley on tv against Montour. CV used him in the wildcat package where he had 3 TD's. He blew it in overtime though. CV scored to make the score 28-27 Montour in overtime, CV decided to go for two to win it. They had the original QB lined up at WR, Foster at QB in the wildcat. He scrambled to his left, backtracked to the right and had a perfect opportunity to hit the QB WIDE OPEN but elected to tuck it and try to score on his own. He came up about 4 yards short and was knocked out of bounds. Seems kinda selfish if you ask me. Game was on Root Sports if you want to try and catch it again.

With offers from Pitt, Alabama, Ohio State, Michigan, USC and others, Central Valley's Robert Foster is one of the top receiver recruits in the nation.

It was the first practice of Robert Foster's high-school career and a coach told him to "go wide."

This wasn't where Foster envisioned his star to rise. He was a midget-league standout running with the football, not catching it.

Then, that same assistant coach at Monaca High School told Foster the running back to go wide and run. Straight. As fast as he could.

"I ran right between two people and caught the ball," Foster said.

They immediately should have sent out birth announcements for this Foster child. A star receiver was born.

Three years after that day of position transformation, after speeding through his receiver infancy stage, Robert Foster III just might be one of the most unusual players in WPIAL history. Go ahead and call him RFIII.

It has been well-documented what Western Pennsylvania has produced at quarterback.

Other high school players from this area have gone on to big things at linebacker, offensive line and other positions.

Scan through the all-time list of NFL players from the WPIAL and you'll see loads of players from those positions. But big-time receivers? Nah. They come from Florida, Texas, California or even Ohio. That's why Foster is a Western Pennsylvania rarity.

Foster is a senior at Central Valley High School in Beaver County and one of the few receivers in the WPIAL over the years who has been so heavily recruited and so highly touted. Foster is ranked among the top 10 receivers in the country by scouting services. Scout.com ranks him No. 2, Super Prep magazine him No. 4 and Rivals.com No. 8.

Foster's college recruiting tells you plenty about his talent. This summer, he narrowed his list of schools to seven -- Pitt, Alabama, Ohio State, Michigan, Michigan State, Oregon and Southern California.
