Rivals$--Day lands a big offer

Caleb says he did not expect tOSU to be his first offer but his Mom is a tOSU graduate and always wanted him to be a Buckeye.

ATH Caleb Day, Hilliard (Ohio) Darby (2013)

Day is listed as an athlete because he is a tremendous asset for his high school team on both sides of the football. The 6-foot, 175-pound prospect can excel on offense at the high school level because he is a great athlete and provides his team with a home-run threat. Our early take, however, is that his future will most likely be on the defensive side of the football, likely as a cornerback. He is fluid through the hips and looks great in coverage.

The one question we could not answer on film with Day is whether he has the speed to play cornerback at the Division I level, but his technique, ball skills and size suggest he will fare well at that role in the future. His overall athleticism will have some schools giving him a look on the offensive side of the football, but early on it appears his highest upside is on defense.

After watching him play against Upper Arlington, he didn't look impressive on either side of the ball. He showed a lack of hustle on both sides and appears to be afraid of contact. Frank Epitropoulos was burning him on every play. I just didn't come away impressed, but hopefully he continues to improve.

Caleb's been the one guy in the '13 class I've been really unimpressed with the game film I've seen of him thus far of the guys we've offered. Must have been impressive on the combine circuit...

Ankle injury
One thing I don?t like about high school football verse higher football functions is that there is no injury report.
When players are hurt, such as Caleb Day for the last 3 games, it appears that they are not trying, not as good as what they were rated or just an average guy trying to compete for nothing.
Well when a player is forced to play in a game and not fully recovered who should be the blame, the parents, player or the coaches.
Caleb suffered a high ankle sprain against Worthington Kilbourn. His coaches thought it was just a tweak, but the x-rays showed that he suffered ligament damage.
Caleb strengthened his ankle the following week and did not play against a week Central Crossings but was asked to do his best against a much stronger Upper Arlington with an injury that sometimes feels worse than a broken bone.
After seeing that he could not move laterally, the coaches should have removed him from the game. No, that didn?t happen. The coaches left him in the game hoping that UA would not see that he was feeble. Instead, UA noticed that he could not recover on passes that he last year intercepted. Yes, Caleb shut down 6 D1 Wide Receivers last year, hence why he is recognized by coaches that look at game film. This exposure of a weak player cannot be attributed to the player. The coaches should know and prepare someone if your star player is not ready to go.
So for all of you that judged this kid on a sprained ankle, watch him against a better defense in Hilliard Davidson when he is healthy. You will be quite surprised in his effort and playing ability. The OSU coaches offered him for a reason. Now you will be able to see that reason. :)
