Center
Hyattsville, Maryland
DeMatha
AAU: Team Takeover
Ht:6'8"
Wt:250 lbs
Class:2013 (High School)

Strengths:
There are big boys and then there are aircraft carriers. Anya is going to be an aircraft carrier. He's turned himself into a player. He's reshaping his body and his game is coming on. Able to dunk the basketball and looks lighter on his feet. A real spaceater in the lane. For a player his size, he certainly moves well.

Weaknesses:
Still working on developing his offensive moves but again, he's come along way. His conditioning and weight are being addressed and its an area he'll have to keep a close eye on.

Bottom Line:
One of those guys who gets better with each viewing. He's put himself on the high-major radar.

BeJay Anya?s recruitment remains wide open
Posted on July 7, 2011 by Josh Paunil

Anya is hearing from the likes of UConn, Ohio State and Kansas.

Class of 2013 center BeeJay Anya made headlines recently for having one of the biggest wing spans in recorded history (7?9), but we may have found something even wider than that ? how wide open his recruitment is.

?I?m completely wide open right now,? said Anya in a phone interview with National Recruiting Spotlight. ?But the schools that are interested in me are Texas, Syracuse, UConn, Ohio State, St. John?s, Rutgers, Maryland, Virginia Tech, Kansas, U.C.L.A., Florida, Florida State and West Virginia.?

DeMatha center BeeJay Anya continues slimming down as colleges beef up their recruiting
By Josh Barr

All it takes is one look to see how BeeJay Anya has changed.

Anya started losing weight this past school year, redefining his physique as he shed fat and added muscle. The rising junior center at DeMatha, who stands 6 feet 9, now weighs 278 pounds ? 30 pounds lighter than he did one year ago.

?Oh my gosh,? Stags Coach Mike Jones said, noting that he has spent part of the past week watching game video from last season and sees the change in Anya?s figure. ?It?s like he?s a different person.?

Anya said that his weight loss is the result of working out daily and changing his diet. He said his travel-team coach, Keith Stevens of Team Takeover, weekly brings him a bag containing pre-made meals for each day of the week, with plenty of chicken, turkey and vegetables. He has cut out dessert and has not eaten fast food in more than a month.

?Everywhere I go, someone says, ?You?re on a diet, you can?t eat that.? ?

As for colleges, Anya says is wide open. The schools recruiting him hardest, he said, are Maryland, Georgetown, Virginia Tech, Florida, Ohio State, UCLA, Texas and Kansas. All of those schools have offered scholarships.

Q & A: 2013 DeMatha forward BeeJay Anya
by Alex Bozich in Recruiting | September 16th, 2011

DeMatha (MD) forward BeeJay Anya is one of the most coveted post players nationally in the junior class with scholarship offers from more than 15 schools, including Indiana.

Inside the Hall spoke to the 6-foot-9, 270-pound big man with a 7-foot-9 wingspan about his interest in the Hoosier program, his relationship with Victor Oladipo, the transformation of his physique over the last year and several other topics:

On where Indiana stands in his recruitment:

?I?m interested in IU. They?re the same as the rest of my schools because I?m completely wide open at this point.?

On his relationship with current IU guard Victor Oladipo:

?Me and Victor are very close. Our parents know each other very well. He?s like a brother to me.?

On how he transformed his body over the last 12 months, including weight loss of close to 40 pounds:

?Just eating better. Cutting out stuff from my diet. Eating better basically and working out every day and running. It?s helped me a lot. We?ve been having open gyms (at DeMatha) and I?ve been running better. I can jump better and I?m a lot stronger, too, because I?ve been lifting. I think it?s benefited me a lot.?

DeMatha C BeeJay Anya starting to think about colleges
By Josh Barr

PHO-11Feb13-290505.jpg

BeeJay Anya likely will be the most heavily recruited Washington-area player in the class of 2013. (Doug Kapustin - FOR THE WASHINGTON POST) One of the Washington area?s top basketball players in the class of 2013 has begun to narrow his college choices.

Yep, DeMatha center BeeJay Anya has trimmed his list to 16 schools, all of which have offered scholarships.

The list includes three members of this weekend?s Final Four: Ohio State, Kansas and Louisville. Also, soon-to-be ACC members Syracuse and Pittsburgh. The Virginias: U-Va., Tech and West. And in no particular order: Rutgers, Memphis, UCLA, Arizona, Indiana, Notre Dame, Seton Hall and DePaul.

?I?m just trying to take it one step at a time right now,? Anya said.

Anya, who is 6 feet 9 and 270 pounds, will attend USA Basketball?s tryouts in Colorado Springs in June for the under-17 world championships in Lithuania later this summer. He also hopes to start taking college visits and cutting his options.

?Definitely distance is going to be a factor and timing and where I can go with AAU season starting up,? Anya said.

BeeJay Anya is proving during the Nike EYBL why he's the top-rated center in 2013
Originally Published: May 22, 2012

FRISCO, Texas -- There were moments during the Dallas Elite Youth Basketball League (EYBL) session two weeks ago when BeeJay Anya (Hyattville, Md./Dematha Catholic) looked like the best center in the nation.

As the summer progresses, Anya's goal is to turn those moments into a permanent reality. The 6-foot-9, 275-pound standout has been a reliable weapon inside for Team Takeover, as the squad continues its quest for a berth in the EYBL's ultimate prize, the Nike Peach Jam July 18-21 in North Augusta, S.C.

Anya, playing in his third season with Team Takeover, has done his part in the squad's 9-5 record in EYBL play. As Team Takeover prepares for this weekend's Oakland, Calif., EYBL session, it is in a three-way tie for place in Division B and is in the driver's seat for qualifying for the Peach Jam.

"I want to win at all costs. I hate losing, and I love winning," said Anya, who is averaging 8.3 points in EYBL play on a balanced Team Takeover squad. "I'm going to do whatever I can to help my team win, whether that's getting rebounds, block shots, score, whatever possible."

Ranked No. 15 overall and the top-ranked center in the ESPN 60, Anya averaged 7.8 points and 2.2 blocks during the Dallas session. He showed his dominance with a 14-point, 5-rebound and 3-block performance in limited play against the Tennessee Travelers. This is Anya's second EYBL season, and before he focuses on choosing a college, he wants to end his AAU career with a Peach Jam title.

Vocal leadership is one characteristic he brings to the team. According to Team Takeover coach Keith Stevens, a new level of confidence is becoming a second -- and welcomed -- characteristic.

"He's a guy we know everybody on the team will follow from a social and vocal standpoint," Stevens said. "He can go to any kid, and they'll respond to whatever he'll tell them.

"I think with him, he's more consistent with his game. He's starting to trust his jump hooks, which are really going to help him. He knows he's got to be a better post player, and he's doing all he can to be that. He's a kid with a lot of upside and potential, and he's going to get better."

At Dematha Catholic, Anya was a key contributor for a team that finished 30-5 in his junior season. Dematha capped its season by winning the Alhambra Catholic Invitational for the 21st time. All of the Stags' losses were against Fab 50 teams.

There are multiple highlight tapes available showing his ability to dominate inside. Defensively, he uses his 7-4 wingspan to block shots and grab rebounds. Offensively, Anya's power is beneficial in finishing plays close to the rim.

Anya is balancing a host of offers, including Ohio State, Kansas, Syracuse, UCLA and Georgetown. He also has interest from North Carolina, Duke and Kentucky.

?It?s not the case [that Indiana] is the favorite,? Anya told Matt Whitfield on Friday. ?They?re a school I like and I?ll go out there [to visit].?

The links between Anya and Indiana are pretty strong. AAU teammate Stanford Robinson committed to the Hoosiers shortly after Tom Cream added Kenny Johnson to his staff as an assistant, hiring Johnson away from Towson. Prior to working at Towson, Johnson was a coach with Team Takeover DC working with both Robinson and Anya.

?No, I think he?ll do a good job there, but it won?t really affect me that much,? Anya said of Johnson?s presence on the IU staff influencing his decision.

Indiana is just one of the top programs Anya is currently considering.

?Louisville, Kansas, Indiana, Syracuse, Maryland, Georgetown, Connecticut, Ohio State, Villanova, Pittsburgh, St. John?s, and the list goes on,? said Anya.

Fairly confident he is going to IU. They were a favorite to begin with and his coach going to IU seals it IMO.
I have no idea where they are going to find a scholarship for him with all of the commitments Crean has already handed out for the class of 2013 unless Tommy is going to tell someone to take a hike like he did to Matt Roth to make room for an additional scholarship:(

Jabari Parker off UK basketball's radar as '13 class narrows

On Monday, new stories on Jabari Parker, Demetrius Jackson and Beejay Anya hit the web. Combined, those three stories were more than 2,800 words. Not one of those words was "Kentucky."

Anya was briefly on UK's radar as a possible frontcourt option for 2013, but he's made little mention of the Cats in recent months. Indiana hired one of his former AAU coaches, and the Hoosiers are now squarely in the mix with Syracuse, Ohio State, N.C. State and others.
