Small forward
Indianapolis, Indiana
Cathedral

Ht:6'6"
Wt:185 lbs
Class:2013 (High School)

Name: Collin Hartman
Graduation Year: 2013, Rising Sophomore
Height & Weight: 6'6 200
High School/AAU: Cathedral/ Indiana Elite 15U
Position: Small Forward who could play some Power Forward.
2009-2010 Season Stats: 15 Points & 9 Rebounds
Schools Considering: Offers from Purdue, Indiana, and Notre Dame
Timetable for Decision: No timetable has been set for Hartman's decision. He's just finishing his freshman year, and I would expect him to compile more offers and be recruited by other schools.

Scouting Report:
A legitimate 6'6 as a freshman, Hartman has a mature skill set for his age. Hartman has the ball-handling and shooting touch to play the point forward role, sometimes bringing the ball up the court for his team. His 3-point shot is inconsistent, but his mid-range game is very good. Hartman defends the post in most AAU games, and can block shots and rebound on the defensive end. His above average athleticism helps him in those areas. Although his natural position is on the wing, Hartman shows a nice bit of versatility, leaving open the possibility of playing a combo forward role.

Top frosh in Indiana?

Collin Hartman is just now finishing his freshmen year at Indianapolis Cathedral. But already the 6-foot-6 forward is mature beyond his years - both on and off the court.

Off the court, Hartman handles himself with confidence and is very well-mannered and approachable despite having a target on his back because he's considered the No. 1 prospect in Indiana's Class of 2013.

And on the court, Hartman has a skill-set that is advanced beyond his age and a big-time work ethic.

"I just want to make my game more all-around," Hartman said at the recent adidas May Classic. "I still need to get bigger physically. I am not as big, stout-wise, so I have to develop my ballhandling more and be able to do what I need to do.

"I have to go out and make people have to guard more than one thing when they are guarding me."

As a freshman at Cathedral, Hartman averaged 15 points, nine rebounds and three assists. He's been a star for the Indiana Elite 15s team already this spring.

But he said playing a year at the high school level has really "helped me improve because I had to go in there and step up my game."

"It was such a good experience for me," he said. "Playing with a bunch of older guys, learning I can still be a leader without being vocal. I feel like my game gets better every day and I want it to stay that way because I still need to improve."

Hartman already has scholarship offers from Indiana, Notre Dame and Purdue and he said Ohio State and Illinois are showing a lot of interest. His mother, Bobbi, played basketball at Butler and is helping him through the process.

"They are all great programs and all are headed in the right direction," he said. "I just want to now develop relationships. I'll let my mom take me through the motions right now and really not worry too much about (the process)."

Seen and heard

Cathedral sophomore-to-be Collin Hartman scored 24 points to lead the Indiana Elite 15-and-under team to the championship in its bracket of the Adidas Invitational.

The 6-6 Hartman said he originally didn't realize this was the beginning of the coaches evaluation period until he saw a picture in the newspaper Wednesday. Hartman picked up an offer from Illinois last week on an unofficial visit. He also has offers from Indiana, Notre Dame and Purdue, and said Butler and Ohio State have showed a lot of interest.

Hartman talks about schools, Hummel and 'heat checks'
Posted by Kyle Neddenriep

It was one of those days Cathedral sophomore-to-be Collin Hartman on Thursday - one of those good days. One those days where he drops an occasional "heat check."

Hartman scored 24 points in the championship of the 15-and-under bracket of the Adidas Invitational on Thursday at North Central, doing most of his damage late.

"I'm not going to lie, I was going to shoot the ball when I felt like it was falling," he said. "Some where 'heat checks.' That's what you do when you feel like you're on fire. On a fast break, you just pull up."

It was the first tournament championship for Hartman's team and the run came in front of several college coaches in attendance to see Hartman - some with multiple coaches.

"Seeing the head coach there and an assistant (from the same school) at the same game, that means a lot," he said. "The NCAA only allows you to send three coaches out so to have two guys at your game is a real honor. That's fun to see."

Hartman said picked up a recent offer on a visit to Illinois, adding to a list that includes Indiana, Notre Dame, and Purdue. He said Butler and Ohio State have also shown a lot of interest.

"I feel like Ohio State might be close to offering," he said. "I don't know. Coach (Thad) Matta hasn't seen me play yet. The assistants have, but I know he wants to watch me to be sure about it."

Indiana Elite wins 15s title

Indiana Elite grabbed another title in Las Vegas when the 15s claimed the overall crown in the adidas Super 64 on Monday.

The 15s have played solid all spring and summer and finished up the year with a big win.

The Indy Elite team beat the New Heights team from New York and then nipped the Dallas Mustangs 2013 squad 57-52 in the title game. The 15s actually had to play three games on the final day and also beat the GFS Spurs.

Indianapolis Cathedral sophomore-to-be Collin Hartman is the best Division I prospect on the team and had another sensational tournament. He's one of the elite players in the Class of 2013.

Collin also visited the Illini this past weekend...

COLLIN HARTMAN

Were it not for the beguiling lure of the Vatican, Collin Hartman would be Harris's teammate at Hamilton. He'd like that, too. They are close friends.

But instead, Hartman's playing for the Pope. Christopher Hitchens was right. That guy has more troops than you think.

Collin is a year younger than Gary, and plays wing-forward. So it's not out of the question that they'd pick the same school.

Hartman update and Cathedral-Guerin thoughts
Nov. 18, 2010
Written by Kyle Neddenriep

Cathedral sophomore Collin Hartman broke his nose in practice Tuesday ? banging into teammate Jared Drew?s head ? but he wasn?t about to miss his team?s scrimmage Wednesday night against Guerin Catholic.

?No way,? Hartman said. ?We finally got a chance to play somebody besides ourselves. I wasn?t going to miss that.?

The 6-6 Hartman scored 16 points in front of a crowd that included Indiana coach Tom Crean and assistant Tim Buckley (Cathedral coach Andy Fagan said Indiana has also shown interest in sophomore David Hill). The score wasn?t kept until the fourth quarter, in which the Irish outscored Guerin 24-20. Cathedral is a deep, yet inexperienced team and will add several more players once the football season ends (the Irish play Evansville Reitz in a semistate game on Saturday).

Hartman said he?s been thinking ?more in depth? about his college choices and may come to a point soon when he?s ready to narrow down his list.

?I think I need to put more effort into getting to know the people more and really focusing on it,? he said. ?To really take a look at how things are run at different schools and look more in-depth. I kind of have any idea in my head of what I want to narrow it down to, but I?m not ready to finalize it yet. I wake up every morning and think about it a little bit.?

Hartman took visit to Illinois last weekend and plans to visit Indiana this Sunday for the game against Evansville. His list of suitors includes Butler, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan State, Notre Dame, Ohio State and Purdue.

Davis and Hartman, top 2013 prospects, commit to Indiana
Nov. 21, 2010

Sunday marked another huge in-state recruiting haul for the Indiana University basketball program, this time in the state?s sophomore class.

Warren Central?s Devin Davis Jr. and Cathedral?s Collin Hartman both committed to the Hoosiers and coach Tom Crean while on campus for IU?s game against Evansville.

The 6-6 Hartman said he was ?about 15 minutes? back up the road to Indianapolis when he told his mother, Melissa, to turn the car around.

?She said she was behind me 100 percent,? he said.

Hartman said he was also seriously considering Butler, Michigan State and Purdue.

The 6-6 Davis is also considered one of the top sophomores in the country. He was one of a select group of 14- and 15-year-olds invited to USA Basketball tryouts this summer.

?Devin and I had talked a little bit about what we were going to do, just getting each other?s opinions,? Hartman said. ?I knew there was a chance I?d commit when I came down here today.?
