The state of Indiana is absolutely loaded with talent in the 2012 class, and a lot of that talent was on display with the Spiece Indy Heat squad. The most physically-impressive player on the team is A.J. Hammons. At a legit 6 feet 11 and 270 pounds, Hammons is a physical presence who has skill. Maybe the most impressive thing about Hammons is that he is already a very advanced passer for a young big man. Along with his ability to make impressive passes, especially outlet passes, Hammons also has a mean streak down low and likes to finish with authority. As he gets in better shape and more experienced, his game will only continue to flourish.
Hammons is on the rise

A.J. Hammons' growth spurt might be ending, but his national reputation is only beginning.
The Carmel High School center, who recently measured at 6-11, already has a host of major college basketball programs chasing him as he finishes his freshman year.
Indiana and Purdue are among them.
"I'm just looking right now," Hammons said before a recent workout at Carmel. "I'm not even going to try to pick a school until the end of my junior year probably. I'm just looking at all of them."
Hammons will be playing for the Spiece 15-and-under team this weekend in the adidas May Classic, a major spring event in Bloomington, Ind., with teams from New Jersey to California.
While college coaches aren't allowed to watch, the talent evaluation services that rank players will be there, and it's a chance for emerging players like Hammons to face other top prospects.
"Hammons is going to get interest at the highest level provided he capitalizes on his size and ability," said Dave Telep, national recruiting analyst for scout.com. "I like his instincts and his presence."
Hammons has made unofficial visits to IU, Purdue, Marquette and Georgetown, and other coaches, such as Ohio State coach Thad Matta, have visited Carmel to watch Hammons work out.
Hammons averaged 5.6 points, 4.7 rebounds and 2.5 blocked shots while shooting 69 percent as a freshman for Carmel.
Carmel's A.J. Hammons has been sidelined with a right ankle sprain since a team camp last month in Ohio, but the 6-11 center said he hopes to play next week with his Spiece Indy Heat team.
"The summer's been going good, though," said Hammons, who is drawing interest from IU and Purdue. "I've been taking some classes to get my grades up, so that's been good."
Hammons a factor
Carmel coach Mark Galloway said the improvement of 6-10 center A.J. Hammons from his freshman to sophomore year likely can't be measured in numbers, but his impact is far greater than a year ago.
"He's not going to get a lot of credit for the shots that he changes," Galloway said. "On offense, when he gets the ball, two or three guys are going to collapse on him and we'll have guys open. We know the value that he brings. He can change a game."
Hammons totaled 19 points and 15 rebounds in weekend victories over North Central and Tech. Although he has quick feet for a post player and a soft touch around the basket and free throw line, Hammons said he "still has a lot of work to do."
"I need to improve my offense," he said. "But if I don't have anything in there, we've got some really good shooters outside."
Hammons said he doesn't have any college offers yet and probably won't focus on recruiting until next year. Illinois, IU, Purdue and Xavier have shown interest.
