CLEVELAND - Cleveland Glenville's V'Angelo Bentley signed with the University of Illinois last week, and Bentley has the skills and speed to be Glenville's next big star in football's big(ger) leagues.
He certainly has connections to the places he hopes football will ultimately take him.
Among Bentley's childhood idols and confidants are several former Glenville stars, including Ted Ginn Jr. He also stays in close contact with Detroit Lions cornerback Eric Wright, whom he met when Wright volunteered to mentor Glenville students in 2010 when he was playing with the Browns.
"(Bentley) is a really good student, really driven, just a guy that has a good head on his shoulders," Wright said by phone this week. "He reminds me a little of myself growing up. He's had a pretty good foundation coming up, he just doesn't live in the best area. But his work ethic and his ambition are going to push him whether he ever makes the NFL or not."
