Indiana Elite One claims 16s gold

After losing in pool play, the Indiana Elite One team got on a roll in the gold division tournament of the adidas Super 64 and claimed the crown in the 32-team tournament play.

Led by Indianapolis Brod Ripple junior star Ron Patterson (left), the Indiana Elite One team won five games in the tournament to be crowned in Las Vegas.

Patterson was named MVP of the gold division and played up to his lofty ranking for much of the week. The 6-foot-3 Patterson had 18 points in the title game win over the Minnesota Fury team.

Butler commitment Kellen Dunham of Pendleton Heights led the team with 25 points, while Lawrence Central's Jared Drew chipped in with 24 points.

The 6-5 Dunham has been so solid this month. Dunham committed to Butler the day before the first evaluation period began in early July and he's proved to be a huge pickup for Brad Stevens.

Patterson has been tracked all summer by Indiana coach Tom Crean and also mentioned Michigan, Xavier and Minnesota. He said he's noticed some new faces in the crowd and named Miami (Fla.), Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Florida and Georgia Tech trying to get involved.

Indiana Elite One also claimed the Hoosier Shootout and made it to the elite eight in the Kentucky HoopFest prior to this week. The summer is over for IEO.

Patterson forced to transfer after failing to meeting academic standards

Patterson?s former AAU coach, Chris Hawkins, said the 6-3 guard had cleared all of the academic hurdles to enroll at Indiana, but did not meet all of the academic standards in summer school.

?It was a close call as far as him getting into school,? Hawkins said, adding that Patterson would likely seek a transfer to a prep school or another four-year school.
imagine that. what timing!

i'd like to know what these "academic standards" in summer school were. :roll1:

Patterson nears decision
Aug. 17, 2012

Former Broad Ripple High School standout guard Ron Patterson will most likely decide today whether he will pursue enrollment at a four-year college or attend a prep school.

The 6-3 Patterson, who originally signed with Indiana but received word Wednesday that he did not receive admission for the fall semester, would likely attend Brewster Academy (N.H.) if he goes to a prep school.

Patterson is academically qualified to attend a four-year college. His AAU coach, Chris Hawkins, said a number of schools have reached out, including Purdue, Louisville, Missouri, Ohio State, Illinois, IUPUI, Memphis, Providence, Villanova, Xavier, Lamar, Southern Miss, Wright State, Dayton, Nevada and Florida Gulf Coast.

Ron Patterson chooses prep school, will begin recruiting process anew
Aug. 21, 2012
Written by

Faced with the choice of attending a prep school for a year and starting over with the recruiting process or making a hasty decision on a four-year school, former Broad Ripple guard and Indiana signee Ron Patterson chose the former.

The 6-3 Patterson will attend Brewster Academy (N.H.) this year and then reassess his college plans.

?It gives him a chance to build a relationship with these schools and find the perfect fit,? said Chris Hawkins, his longtime AAU coach.

Purdue and Xavier were among the schools interested in Patterson for this year. He was enrolled at Indiana this summer as part of the Faculty Sponsorship Program for students who have not met all of the university?s requirements for admission (though he is fully eligible by NCAA standards). Patterson was told last week that he would
not receive faculty sponsorship to enroll at Indiana for the fall semester.

The timing ? just a few days before the start of school ? made it difficult to fully explore all options, Hawkins said. Brewster Academy has produced several Division I players in recent years, including Thomas Robinson (Kansas) and Will Barton
(Memphis).

A number of Division I schools plan to recruit Patterson for the 2013 class, including Xavier, Providence, Marquette, Virginia Tech, Illinois, Missouri, Kansas State, Cincinnati, Dayton, Cleveland State, Nevada, Kent State, Ball State and IUPUI.
