Evaluation

January, 2010: Evan is a skilled wing forward that plays inside a lot for the Milton High School team because of necessity. He gives them added size and he is solid in that role for the team. He is a natural perimeter player with solid length and athletic ability. Nolte has a solid mid range game that includes jump shots to 15 feet and decent off the dribble moves that allow him to slash to the basket mostly going to his right. He has a developing long range jump shot with range to about 19 feet right now. He is a decent rebounder in the paint but prefers to swoop in from the perimeter for rebounds. Evan is a decent defender both on the wing and inside. He needs to improve his quickness with his perimeter defense and needs to add strength in order to be a better defender on the block.

November, 2009: Nolte, who scored 25 points in a high level match-up versus Miller Grove (Elite 8 Thanksgiving Hardwood Classic), is a skilled "Mike Dunleavy-type" combo-forward that has tremendous upside; as a 2012 grad it is easy to project him as a 6-9 or 6-10 player. He has very good court awareness as he always seems to be in the right place at the right time to make a play. He handles it and passes it well for a player of his size and age. He has a nice three point stoke with deep range that allows him to stretch the defense which helps create driving lanes for his teammates. Despite his thinner frame he battles for rebounds and is not afraid to mix it up in the low post while being at a strength or weight disadvantage. He understands defensive positioning and is able to perimeter defend on and off the ball. The developing sophomore is rising fast through the ranks of the 2012 class.

Georgia Tech has Milton junior as No. 1 target for 2012 recruiting class
June 18, 2010, by Michael Carvell

Georgia Tech has told Evan Nolte that he is the No. 1 target for its basketball recruiting class of 2012, according to his coach.

The 6-foot-8, 190-pound Nolte is a junior swingman at Milton High, which won the state championship in Georgia?s largest classification last March. He averaged 14 points and 8 rebounds last season.

?Georgia Tech said they really like Evan because of the following: he is a very skilled player who has NBA range on his 3-pointers, he is 6-8 and still growing, he plays on a championship high school program, he?s a great student (with a 3.7 GPA), and he loves to compete,? Milton coach David Boyd said.

Evan also has an older sister who attends Georgia Tech. He also has an older brother, Connor Nolte, who is a member of UGA?s basketball team. Evan has early offers from both Georgia Tech and UGA, along with Auburn, Alabama, Oklahoma, Wake Forest, Virginia, and South Carolina.

I had heard last year from my Milton connection then he might be the best player on the team that includes Scott, Parker, and Royal. I know my connection led me astray on where some guys might be going to college but I do not think he missed the boat on this guy.

From an e-mail from a contact in Milton:

Evan Nolte is the younger brother of Connor (went to Furman and now at Georgia), whom I coached. He may be 6?8? and can really shoot it, but is not athletic. I don?t see him as more than a complementary guy if he goes to an elite program. My guess is that Georgia is a god fit.

Milton SG Evan Nolte was followed by Coach K, Roy Williams and many other celebs this summer (AJC's Michael Carvell)

Evan Nolte, 6-8, shooting guard, Milton: Nolte escaped the shadows of his heralded high school teammates, making the smart decision to play with his own age group with the Southern Kings U16. It forced him into the role of a team leader and did wonders for his confidence. While he had a shooting slump in Orlando, he maintained the shooter?s mentality ? and kept launching shots. It seemed as if he couldn?t miss at the Peach State in early July. He is considered one of the nation?s best outside shooters in his class.

You have a lot of offers on the table right now (Clemson, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Ohio State, Virginia, Iowa, Oklahoma, SC, Wake Forest, Alabama, Northwestern, and Oregon State), do any teams standout?
?All the bigger schools standout when they call. UNC has been calling the last couple of months. Ohio State also.?

Do you speak to some coaches more than others?
?I talk to Georgia, Virginia, and Ohio State a little bit more than the others.?

Florida Gators offer scholarships to Milton?s Evan Nolte and Miller Grove?s Brandon Morris
September 16, 2010, by Michael Carvell

Florida coach Billy Donovan offered scholarships to a pair of Atlanta?s top junior basketball players ? Milton?s Evan Nolte and Miller Grove?s Brandon Morris.

Donovan has been closely watching the 6-foot-8 Nolte since the summer, deciding whether or not to tender an offer. After seeing Nolte again in person at Milton High?s voluntary workouts this week, Donovan finally issued the scholarship on Wednesday. Nolte has around 15 early offers, including Georgia Tech and UGA. His older brother, Connor Nolte, plays at UGA.

?That?s good news for Evan,? Milton coach David Boyd said. ?[Donovan] wanted to see him play a little more, have a chance to evaluate him more. When Florida saw him this week, they were sold. I think you have to appreciate college coaches doing a thorough job of evaluating players before making an offer.?
