Abraham Garcia -- 6-4, 339, University (Davie, Fla.) OL
Results: 5.62 40, 4.94 shuttle, 39-0 PB, 23.4 VJ, 85.47 SPARQ
Breakdown: Earned the top SPARQ Rating for the offensive line underclass group and still was not happy. He told us, "I want to do better." Garcia is a coach's dream, because he will not settle for less and has a strong work ethic. Some of the credit has to go to University head coach Roger Harriott and offensive line coach Daniel Luque. Garcia has long arms and a good overall frame. His shuttle run was impressive and his power ball toss showed off his core and peak power. Selected to the 2009 Sun Sentinel All-Broward Class 3A-1A Honorable Mention team.

Scout $ - Garcia Is One To Watch For 2012

By The Bank...talks about the areas of his game he has been working on since his sophomore season...Wisconsin, Michigan, Florida, Buffalo, Marshall, Miami and Ohio State have been by his school...talks about his strong religious beliefs and how they will play into his decision.

Clearly a Tressel recruit.

He obviously has nice athleticism for a player his size, but I wonder if it enough for him to play on the edge, especially at LT.

We are relatively set at RT for the moment, but in major need of someone with enough athleticism for the left side, I wonder if Nacho fits the bill.

HIGH SCHOOL PRESEASON TOUR
University School lineman Garcia could be team's MVP

University School's Abraham Garcia scored as the top underclass offensive lineman at the Nike SPARQ combine, achieving one of the highest "power ball'' throws in the entire camp.

The on-field life of an offensive lineman is often set in the background, doing the unappreciated things, getting little credit for team success. Often, the only time an offensive lineman gets his name or number called, it's because he has missed a block or committed a penalty.

But University School coach Roger Harriot knows 6-5, 320-pound junior lineman Abraham Garcia could be the team's most valuable player.

``Abe is the kind of guy that can be the cornerstone of your team,'' Harriot said. ``He's a strong force, he's the anchor of our line. We know we can go to his side whenever we need a first down or a touchdown.''

Garcia, who holds a 3.0 grade-point average, has made many top college programs take notice while protecting Suns quarterback Douglas Cook's blind side. Ohio State and Michigan highlight a list of nearly 15 schools who've shown interest.

Colleges cannot make official written offers to juniors until Sept. 1, and that's fine with Garcia.

``Playing football and keeping my grades up are the two most important things right now,'' Garcia said. ``If I continue to work hard on the field and in the classroom, all of that stuff will fall perfectly into place.''

University School's Garcia tough for recruiters to miss
By Patrick Lammer, Sun Sentinel
September 8, 2010

When Abraham Garcia takes the field, No. 77 is hard to miss.

At 6 feet 5 1/4 and 340 pounds, you take notice.

College coaches across America sure have.

The University School left tackle is one of the top high school football prospects in the state and he is just a junior.

Garcia helped pave the way for the Class 2B Suns to a season-opening 32-14 victory over Class 5A Nova High this past Friday, before leaving in the second half with a left foot injury. University School rolled up almost 350 yards in the contest and is ranked in the top five in total offense for Broward County small schools (3A-1A).

"We're amazing. We have great running back corps, great receiving corps, our offensive line ... we're a team. We're a family," said Garcia, who was slated to have an MRI on Wednesday on his injured foot.

Garcia has grown more than an inch since starting last year as a sophomore. The man-child they call "Nacho" says college coaches are looking at him as a left tackle or left guard on the next level.

"I hear from a lot of coaches," said University School coach Roger Harriott of the major interest in his big lineman. "Just about anyone you can think of has shown a substantial amount of interest in Abraham."

Two of Garcia's teammates have already verbally committed in senior defensive lineman Pat Williams (Buffalo) and senior defensive back Devin Gaulden (Auburn).

As for a potential next home starting in 2012, Garcia said, "I'm looking at LSU, Ohio State, Wisconsin, Michigan and UM. I've visited a lot of colleges. For right now, those are the top [ones]. So until I see other colleges that's how it's going to stay for a while."

He says the biggest factor in selecting that college is "family" and he hopes to major in marine biology.

Besides having the physical size and ability to play major college football, Harriott credits "Nacho's" work ethic and attitude for getting him to where he is today.

"He's a kid that came in and didn't know a whole lot about football, and our offensive line coach [Daniel Luque] took him under his wing and helped him become more acclimated to the game of football," Harriott said. "It took a little bit of time but I think the greatest thing about Nacho, other than his physical attributes, is his intangibles.

"He has an exceptional work ethic. He is the epitome of positive character traits ? he's a wonderful kid. He does a good job of staying humble and encouraging his teammates."

Could one of our more technically proficient people do a side-by-side with Nach and Orlando? I've lost too many brain cells, I guess, but the resemblance looks eerily (a word?) similar.....thanks
