Howard is as complete a CB prospect as you?ll find at the prep level. He has the size and length you look for and plenty of room on his frame to grow. A very aggressive and physical player with great instincts, fluid hips and good technique, Howard is a true lockdown corner at the high school level. In press man coverage, he gets up in the receiver's face and uses his hands to jam them and knock them off their routes to disrupt the timing of the play. When playing in off man coverage, he turns and runs very naturally and uses his reaction and closing speed to effectively bait QBs. He has elite ball skills and is extremely comfortable and confident playing the ball in the air. He can also be an asset in run support as he plays stronger than his size would indicate. He does a good job of shedding blocks and is a solid tackler with good form. Howard is a very instinctive player with a lot of confidence and a great football IQ.
Translation to College:
Howard's game translates very well to the college level. He needs to continue to get bigger and stronger for his physical style to be effective at the next level, but he has the room on his frame to carry 185-200 pounds. With his technique and understanding of the game, Howard could contribute as a freshman and be a 3 year starter at cornerback.
