Orlando (FL) Edgewater HS

Height: 5-foot-10
Weight: 175 lbs

Howard is a junior versatile athlete at Edgewater High. He plays receiver, running back and defensive back. McDuffie is a sophomore wide receiver and special teams star across town at UCF.

"Basically, our game plan and the way we do things is similar," Howard said.

At 5-foot-7, 150-pounds, Howard can be undersized. McDuffie, who is listed at a fairly generous 5-foot-10, 177-pounds, is also on the small side. However, they more than make up for their lack of size with blistering speed. McDuffie set metro-area records in the 200 meters during his time at Edgewater and Howard has shown his athleticism as a three-sport athlete for the Eagles.
However, there's one school in particular that Howard is hoping will offer him.

"The school I've been looking into most since my freshman sophomore year is Ohio State. They've been looking at me since the beginning of my sophomore year. They're looking at me now."

According to Howard, he talks frequently with Michael Brewster, a former Edgewater player who is a three-year starting center at Ohio State as a junior.

"He basically tells me I'll love it out there," Howard said. "Hopefully the end of my junior year, come towards my senior year, I'll take a trip out there."

J.B. Woodman, Alton Howard propel Edgewater past Poinciana

J.B. Woodman connected with Alton Howard on a 7-yard touchdown pass on Edgewater's first drive, leading to a 61-0 victory against host Poinciana (0-8, 0-4 in 4A-7).

No. 10 Edgewater (5-3, 3-0) scored a touchdown in each of its first three possessions, and Marquis Larue returned an interception 21-yards as the Eagles jumped out to a 28-0 lead midway through the first quarter. Woodman threw four touchdowns.

Howard, who scored on a 43-yard run, also threw two TD passes.

And the Eagles (6-3, 5-0) were in full flight on Friday night. Speedy junior Alton Howard and smooth-striding senior Ray Rowe scorched single-coverage and quarterback J.B. Woodman passed for 327 yards and five touchdowns in a 51-13 victory that wrapped up the Class 4A, District 7 championship.

Rowe had four catches for 114 yards and three TDs. Howard added 97 yards and two TDs on three receptions plus a 44 yard scoring run. He had two TDs nullified by penalties.

2012 recruits have to reconsider options with Urban Meyer stepping down at Florida

Orlando Edgewater High juniors Alton Howard and Karl Joseph, who both have verbal scholarship offers from UF, said they would certainly have to see how the situation plays out before they weigh their options. Howard, looking for a spread-offense type of situation, is likely more effected by the Meyer news.

"In a way it can (have an effect), but Florida is Florida," said Howard, a 5-foot-7, 150-pound all-purpose back who plays mostly wide receiver on offense for Edgewater. "It will effect those who are playing now that Urban Meyer isn't there, but it probably won't effect my decision..

Howard, the No. 3-ranked player in the Sentinel's 2012 Central Florida Super60, also has offers from UCF, Cincinnati, Utah, East Carolina, UCLA and Ohio State.

"I feel like staying in Florida now, but at the same time, anything can change," Howard added. "I'll try not to let it get to me too much. I plan on making my decision at end of summer or toward the beginning of football season."

Not holding out hope on this one. When Ohio State gets mentioned with East Carolina and UCF in the afterthoughts, the kid just isn't looking here.

Mentioned in that order by a reporter from the Sun Sentinel?

Yes, you're probably right. I don't want to read too much into it this early on. Either way, if a Florida kid doesn't want to leave the state there are plenty of FBS schools to give him the look.

He's worth the offer either way because of the Brewster connection; get him up here for a visit then anything might happen.

2012 WR Alton Howard of Orlando Edgewater has Ohio State on top - OrlandoSentinel.com

By Chris Hays | Orlando Sentinel
January 28, 2011

Orlando Edgewater wide receiver Alton Howard knows it's early. He's a junior, but he's already received attention as one of the top players in the 2012 signing class.

He has offers from Ohio State, Florida, UCF, UCLA, Cincinnati, East Carolina and Utah, so far. Official offers can't be extended to players, as per new NCAA guidelines, until August of their senior year.

But schools still offer. It's just not on paper. And while Pig, a nickname for which Howard is most commonly known, has nothing official, he's still narrowed his choices and the Buckeyes have the early lead.

"Yeah, Ohio State... they are No. 1 of the offers I have so far," said Howard, who is the half-brother of UCF receiver Quincy McDuffie. "Florida, I still got interest in them and all the other colleges that have offered me. I'm wide open to go anywhere, but as for now, on my list I've got Ohio State at No. 1."

And he has a friend at Ohio State who can give him plenty of insight on the Buckeyes' program.

"There's that whole Mike Brewster connection," Howard said of Brewster, a 6-5, 293-pound offensive lineman out of Edgewater in 2008, and heads into his senior year next season. "He tells me about the atmosphere up there and the support from the fans and how he loves it up there."

Couple of things:

1) Very impressed with his speed and explosion. He seems to have some serious burst and ability to change directions without losing much speed. It's crazy.
2) Thought he ran some good routes. I only watched the sophomore tape beause the first one wouldn't load and you didn't see any bubble screens and what not. He was running outs, posts, and hitches. I was very impressed.

3) Thought that QB looked good too lol.

I'm glad to hear we are in on this kid because he looks special.
