'11 PA TE Ben Koyack (Notre Dame Signee)

Midwest Recruiting Blog - ESPN

Star junior making another visit

Tight end target Ben Koyack (Oil City, Pa.) will visit Ohio State on Tuesday. The 6-5, 230-pounder is one of the country's top junior tight end prospects.

Koyack, his parents, coach Ray Beers and Beers' wife will make the trip to Columbus. The same group visited Penn State in June.

Koyack has at least 17 scholarship offers including Penn State, Ohio State, West Virginia, Pitt, Florida, Wisconsin, Boston College, Maryland, Virginia Tech and North Carolina State. His top four choices remain Penn State, Ohio State, Pitt and West Virginia, though Notre Dame has entered the picture and would round out his top five.

It would not be surprising if Koyack's decision ultimately comes down to Penn State or Ohio State.

Ben Koyack (Oil City, Pa.), one of the country's top rising junior tight end prospects, visited Ohio State on Tuesday. Koyack made the trip to Columbus with his parents, coach Ray Beers and Beers' wife.

"It went really good," Koyack said. "I got to see pretty much all of the campus. It was pretty nice."

Koyack's parents also liked what they saw, while at Ohio State.

"My parents were really impressed," Koyack said. "They wanted to see how the academics would stack up. They were pretty impressed."

Koyack recently made a similar visit to Penn State with his parents and Beers.

When asked to compare his trip to Columbus with the one he took to State College, Koyack said, "I was pretty impressed with both schools. They are still my top two."

The 6-foot-5, 230-pounder has close to 20 scholarship offers. His list includes Penn State, Ohio State, West Virginia, Pitt, Florida, Wisconsin, Boston College, Maryland, Virginia Tech and North Carolina State. In addition to Penn State and Ohio State, his other top choices are Pitt, West Virginia and Notre Dame.

Ohio State Buckeyes College Football Recruiting, OSU Big Ten Football, OSU Basketball - Bucknuts.com

Tight end Kevin Haplea (Annandale, N.J./North Hunterdon) announced his college choice at a Monday morning press conference at his high school. As expected, Haplea committed to Penn State, giving Joe Paterno 14 pledges.

Haplea had 23 scholarship offers including Penn State, West Virginia, Pitt, Florida, Florida State, North Carolina, Miami, South Florida, Louisville, Syracuse, Clemson, Rutgers and Purdue. He had narrowed his decision down to the first five before selecting the Nittany Lions.

The 6-foot-4 and 235-pound Haplea caught 17 passes for 223 yards and two touchdowns during his junior season. He is one of the top tight end prospects on the East Coast.

So how could this be good for the Bucks?

Junior tight end Ben Koyack from Oil City, Pa., is considering offers from Ohio State and Penn State and I think his decision will come down to one of the two.

If the Bucks don't sign a tight end this recruiting season, the depth chart might look a bit more favorable to Koyack at Ohio State with no tight end in the class ahead of him.

Oil City: a historic city

Coach Tressell probably won't recruit a tight end this year for 2010 to create the best opportunity he can for Ben Koyack. Then it will be up to Ben to decide where the best place for him is. Looks like a next spring/summer decision according to reports.

It would be great to have an Oil City Oiler as a Buckeye.

The Derrick

Coach Matt LaVerde's Oilers arrived nine minutes late for kickoff, were penalized five yards for delay of game and then proceeded to blitz visiting Meadville en route to a 47-14 victory over the Bulldogs in non-region action at the refurbished Oil Field.
...

Kulinski found Lantz for a 20-yard gain on first down and, two plays later, he fired a bullet to Ben Koyack on a screen pass to the right flat. Koyack picked up a block from sophomore guard Mike Moon and sprinted 59 yards for a touchdown to hike the OC lead to 12-0 with 4:58 left in the first quarter.
...

Heasley was the next Oiler to find the end zone after the Kulinski-to-Koyack combination struck for completions for 21 and 37 yards to open a second-quarter drive. Logan Carson bulled his way for eight yards before Heasley split the middle of the Bulldogs defense for a three-yard TD.
Oil City needed just five plays to cover 62 yards on its next posession with Heasley accounting for 17 yards on two carries and Williams pulling up in the left flat to fire a 29-yard pass to Koyack to give the Oilers a first down at the Meadville 16-yard.

Following a one-yard loss, Kulinski found Koyack on a fade route for a 17-yard touchdown. Klena's kick gave the Oilers a 26-0 lead with 5:18 left in the first half.
...

But, once again, Oil City answered with a five-play, 80-yard scoring march which was capped by a 60-yard touchdown pass from May to Koyack on a third-and-seven call. Klena's kick set the final margin at 47-14.

Koyack led all receivers with nine catches for a school-record 249 yards while Lantz had five receptions for 51 yards and Williams caught four balls for 77 yards.

BN $ - Koyack Pumped

Ben Koyack is on his way home from his visit to Ohio State. There is no doubt the star tight end liked what he saw while in the Horseshoe on Saturday night.

Talks about The Walk and the Skull Session...not concerned about how much OSU throws to the TE.

I LOVE hearing all of the feedback from the recruits that were at the game. It's really cool to hear their take.

People (at least around here in Michigan) always debate whether or not it's worth it to schedule these big non-conference games and the effect on recruiting always gets over looked. Kids want to play in these games just like fans want to watch them.
