Making a name for himself
By Cliff Smith

...
Add it all up and you have ThaRinger.coms top rated wide receiver in a very deep Ohio 2011 class. You also have a player that top schools from nearly every corner of the country are clamoring to recruit. A look at Jordan?s offer list reveals that programs from every BCS conference except for the PAC 10 have offered a scholarship to Jordan. Though when talking with him, he seems so grounded that you?d never know he has 14 different college coaching staffs trying to sway him their way.

A.J. Jordan

High school: Trotwood-Madison (Ohio). Height: 6-2 1/2. Weight: 170. 40-yard dash: 4.41. Scout.com ranking: No. 25 WR.

Michigan emerged as a strong presence at Trotwood-Madison two years ago when it landed tight end Brandon Moore, running back Michael Shaw, and receiver Roy Roundtree. Now the Wolverines are back this year courting A.J. Jordan.

The four-star pass-catcher's scouting report reads like a coach's wish list.

"One of the top players in Ohio in his class," his Scout.com profile reads. "Also ranked one of the top 4 hurdlers in the nation. A smooth route runner with a great burst, he can make plays anywhere on the field and makes defenses game-plan against him."

Michigan became privy to Jordan's talents during his participation in its annual summer camp. He didn't receive an offer from coach Rich Rodriguez until late last month, but the Wolverines recent entrance into the scholarship fray did little to dim his opinion of Michigan. As a matter of fact, it was enhanced during his attendance at the program's "Barbecue at the Big House" last weekend.

"We got up there and it was real nice," Jordan told GoBlueWolverine.com. "They took us around the campus and they showed us around and made us feel real comfortable. I had a really good time. The food was real good (laughing). They had some ribs and some chicken and some macaroni and cheese. It was so good.

"I'm real comfortable there and they just made me feel like I was already part of the team. That's a big thing for me when talking about where I'm going. I feel real comfortable at Michigan."

Another feather in Michigan's cap is Jordan's relationship with Roundtree.

"We're really close," Jordan said of his former teammate. "When I was a freshman he was a senior and took me under his wing. We worked together and he's really cool. I know if I went up there I'd feel really comfortable. He's telling me it's good up there and they could get me in the system and make some plays."

The Wolverines appear to have vaulted into the driver's seat for Jordan's. Based on his decision timetable, it might prove difficult for the other 18 programs on his offer list remove Michigan from that perch.

"I would like to try to make (a commitment) a little early," Jordan said. "I'd like to have it done before my senior football season. If I make the early decision, it'll be somewhere where I feel really comfortable at with the coaches and where I could play."

Just passing along some info:

I've heard Michigan is head and shoulders #1 for Jordan, and one of the only obstacles that stand in the way of him committing before the summer ends is the possibility of UM telling him to wait while they hold out for Arnett. Of course, I've also heard that UM may take Jordan whenever he's ready regardless of other prospects.

Either way, sounds like UM is the team to beat here for the time being.

Ohio pipeline still looks promising
Michigan Wolverines

UPDATE: Though four-star WR A.J. Jordan still hasn't officially narrowed his list, ESPN Recruiting's Bill Kurelic says that seven schools appear to be out in front for Jordan's services, with Michigan and Wisconsin as the front-runners. The other five in the running are Purdue, Indiana, Illinois, Michigan State and West Virginia.

As we told you in May (see below), Michigan's trio of Jordan's former teammates may be too much for the other schools to overcome.

In an interview with ESPN.com's Bill Kurelic, ESPNU 150 Watch List WR A.J. Jordan of Ohio made it sound as if he was still a ways from a college decision. But Sam Webb, writing for the Detroit News, came away with a different impression after talking to Jordan.

"The Wolverines appear to have vaulted into the driver's seat for Jordan," Webb writes. "Based on his decision timetable, it might prove difficult for the other 18 programs on his offer list remove Michigan from that perch."

Both Kurelic and Webb quote Jordan as saying that he would like to announce before the season. Jordan is from a high school that produced three Michigan players in 2008, junior RB Michael Shaw and sophomores WR Roy Roundtree and Brandon Moore. All three will see significant playing time this fall, which should be attractive to Jordan.

Jordan is especially close to Roundtree, Michigan's top receiver. "When I was a freshman he was a senior and took me under his wing," Jordan said. "We worked together and he's really cool. I know if I went up there I'd feel really comfortable. He's telling me it's good up there and they could get me in the system and make some plays."
