as i've stated elsewhere, i really like taylor's game. he apparently outplayed northland's backcourt. but a player's reputation isn't built by one game, which is why i'm not using yesterday as a justification for my opinion of him. i've caught taylor in a couple aau tournaments. he has the whole package as a point guard except the ideal size (and, at times, the overly arrogant attitude). he is diminutive; however, his shot is excellent, he possesses an array of moves (not the least of which is a necessary floater for an undersized guard), he sees the whole court, and he is at least a couple plays ahead of the action.
i certainly do understand why matta did not offer taylor. small guards are not ideal for high major teams. our coach currently has shannon scott in his pocket, which causes me not to worry about any possible oversight. furthermore, we have craft and smith in next year's class, which creates multi-year depth in the backcourt. nonetheless, taylor will make some mid-major happy. if you like the promise of dj cooper from ohio university, you'd like stevie taylor. perhaps groce will be the guy to grab him--that is, if groce doesn't go on to a bigger and better program by 2011.
