'11 OH DL Kevin Williams (Nebraska Signee)

I dont understand how it is possible for Ohio State not to land a defensive lineman FROM the state of Ohio. We need to have that pull, the type of pull that Florida has with their in state kids, it should be "cool" to go to Ohio State...

As a percentage, Ohio State gets more D-1 level players from Ohio than Florida.

Florida has three times to D1 prospects than Ohio each year because of the polulation and year round emphasis on football. The same with Texas. OSU will still get the cream of the Ohio crop every year (12-15 players).

Yes, which is partially the point. Ohio State has far more control over Ohio than UF does over Florida. If Kevin Williams were to get a Buckeye offer, I'm sure it would hold some sway over him.

DT should be at the top of our list for 2011, here is an in state guy who is top 10 at his position (a position of need) and we arent offering as soon as he steps on campus?

Kevin McReynolds is top 10 in the nation at his position...Kevin Williams is not. OSU is sitting in great shape with Bennett, Farris, Miller, Hayes, McReynolds and Lynch, all of whom have been offered and AT LEAST four of which could play inside.

The staff will offer players who fit their criteria, not off the rankings of other services. It really is not odd at all. The kid would be unknown to the internet if his video was just out there as it was not super impressive. But once the rankings list comes out, suddenly there is this increased perception of him as a player.

Frankly, I'm not sure where his position is on the defense live, in Ohio State's scheme at least. He isn't explosive enough to play the 5 tech and be an outside guy. His competition is poor so it's hard to get a read on his toughness, i.e. he's bigger, stronger, and faster than everyone he plays. How does he respond to guys he isn't physically better than?

Does he have enough "dirt" in him to play the nose tackle position? In my opinion, that is the best fit for him if he can do it. If not, he will probably be more of a 2/3 tech guy. And there are probably better athletes out there for that spot.

This is my thinking...I like Williams a lot. However, I like both of McReynolds and Bennett much, much better and I see both as 3 techs. I also see Williams as a 3 tech that could be about to max out his frame. Unless we miss one, he may not see an offer. I hope we have room for him, but it may not come to be. If we go for a nose type (keep in mind we have Hankins), it may be Tommy Brown.
