'11 OH DL Kevin Williams (Nebraska Signee)

Scout $ - UM Makes Strong Impression on Williams (Pt 1)
Sam Webb of GoBlueWolverine.com, Feb 22, 2010

Williams attended the scUM junior day with his parents, siblings, Grandma, & a family friend... He & his family were impressed by the facilities, academic support, & the one on one attention he received... Williams grew up a fan of both Notre Dame & _ichigan though he favored ND when they played... Will be at OSU on 3/1 & believes the Bucks will offer on the visit...

The family rated the scUM academic facilities ahead of what they've seen at OSU so far... The family friend who came along is a big OSU fan but even he didn't think the Buckeyes could offer a better package... Florida, Notre Dame, & Alabama all seem close to offering so that could change things... Still hopes to commit by the end of Spring...

Williams & his family had a great time at the Sparty junior day last weekend... His step-Dad has been taking him to East Lansing at least once a year on Fathers day for most of his life... Names MSU as his leader & wants to commit soon, maybe by the end of Spring... Names OSU as another of his top schools along with several others...

Sam Webb: Recruiting
U-M, MSU among schools seeking Ohio DE Kevin Williams

When college coaches hit the recruiting trail in search of big athletic defensive linemen, most plug in southern destinations into their GPS units. According to Holland (Ohio) Springfield High coach Vince Marrow, they'd be well advised to add his school to the itinerary so they can check in on his star pupil, defensive tackle Kevin Williams.

"Being a former college coach and NFL coach, I knew he was going to blow up when I put his film out there and started making the calls," Marrow said. "My belief is that Kevin Williams is not just the top D-tackle in the Midwest, he is one of the top D-tackles in the country. I'm talking top five."

Marrow's experience as a NFL tight end, and tight ends coach for two NFL Europe teams and the University of Toledo, has helped him develop a keen eye for talent. Before the beginning of his first season as a high school coach last fall, Marrow suspected that he had in Williams the kind of commodity colleges line up for. A whopping 157 tackles (including 64 solos) and 15 sacks later, that suspicion was confirmed.

Scout $ - The Three Questions...
By Allen Wallace
Posted Feb 26, 2010

His current top 4 are MSU, scUM, Nebraska, & Bowling Green... If any of OSU, Florida, 'Bama, or Notre Dame offers, they could jump up with the others... Same stuff about Dad/MSU, growing up a ND fan, likes RRod (calls him "very cool"), & respect for the Nebraska D... Paraphrasing the 3 questions, they are: 1) does the def. scheme fit his abilities 2) Do the coaches watch out for their players 3) will he get prepared for the NFL...

Ohio will be key again for MSU
Posted: Feb. 27, 2010
By MATT DORSEY

Since being hired at Michigan State back in November of 2006, Mark Dantonio has made recruiting the state of Ohio a top priority.

Other coaches like John L. Smith and Nick Saban also recruited there, but Dantonio has taken it to another level. Nearly 30 percent of the players signed by Michigan State since Dantonio's arrival played their high school ball in Ohio. That percentage is higher than any other Big Ten school -- except for Ohio State, of course.

Michigan State has recently extended scholarships offers to several Ohio players they are prioritizing for the class of 2011.

Mark Givler, who covers recruiting for OhioVarsity.com, recently stated that the players that Dantonio has offered from the Buckeye State are "impressive" and he expects Michigan State to sign "another strong group from Ohio."

Here's a look at a few of his preseason top-ranked players that Michigan State is currently pursuing:

No. 14 DT Kevin Williams of Springfield High School
The top-rated defensive tackle in Ohio was in East Lansing last weekend and came away saying the Spartans were one of his top choices. Considering Michigan State did not sign a high school defensive tackle in 2010, Williams could be an early impact player if he ends up being a Spartan.

In his analysis, Bill Greene (Superprep) seems to think that OSU had better offer, or 'this ship will have sailed'. From what everyone has written, it sounds like Kevin Williams has some love being thrown his way by Dantonio. If MSU didn't take a DL last year, then they'll be as hot to get one wrapped up as OSU will be for OLs....and so it goes. I probably missed it, but has anyone speculated the depth chart/potentials for DL? We will lose the heart of the DL over the next two years to graduation, and need some talented bodies to anchor the D......hope we grab this one, but methinks it'll take some wooing and some time to land him.

I dont understand how it is possible for Ohio State not to land a defensive lineman FROM the state of Ohio. We need to have that pull, the type of pull that Florida has with their in state kids, it should be "cool" to go to Ohio State...
