ESPN Evaluation said:
September, 2009: Rankin is a quick and speedy point guard who can really push the ball foul line to foul line with speed and his head/eyes up looking to advance it to an open teammate. He possesses a second gear of speed that blows by defenders off the dribble. His bread and butter dribble move is the cross-over dribble (left to right) as he goes in a north/south direction that leaves defenders standing still. He is a capable 3-point shooting who needs to become more consistent behind the line. In pick/roll situations he waits on the screen like good point guards should then attacks the big man and score or delivers the assist. His basketball IQ is high as he knows how much time is on the clock when he shot a half court bomb with a second to go and drained it. Defensively he can pick up 94' and needs to turn his man more in the back court. Off the ball he anticipates passing lanes well and has a knack for the steal. He brings energy and excitement to his team.

Interesting to see that the coaching staff is spending so much time looking at guys down in ACC country. This kit along with Scott makes 2 PG's from North Carolina who have some Ohio State interest.

His school is in the same conference as mine which is easily the top in the state of North Carolina. If you see any film on him or wonder about the level of competition... rest assured, he's facing the best of the Southeast night in and night out during conference.

He really came on last year, Vance had a glut of Division I-caliber guards and he took playing time away from all of them.

By Brian Snow...Marquis' father says his son is back to 100%...says distance won't be a factor...they are looking for the best situation that combines basketball and academics...Wake was first to offer...UNC has not offered but is showing consistent interest.

It appears as though OSU is not recruiting him, but I had to give an update here... dude went off against my HS last night. Let me give a little background. My school came into the game 21-0, and we had won 48 of our last 49 games and we boast 2 committed division 1 players and 2 more being recruited pretty heavily. I don't know what the box score says on how many points he scored, but he and his backcourt mate Braxton Ogbueze went off and they beat us 56-52. In the past 4 years I've gone to pretty much every game my school has played (I've been one of the chant leaders in the student section for the past 2 years in basketball season), and I've seen a lot of talented kids. Guys committed to all sorts of colleges, ranging from Wake Forest to UNC to Duke to Davidson to Southern, and Rankin is the best outside of current Wake Forest committ J.T. Terrell that I've seen in the state in the past 4 years.
