'11 FL WR Ja'Juan Story (Florida Signee - Transfer to TCU)

Evaluation

Story is one of the few "big" receivers in this class that can really run well. He is big, rangy, athletic and builds to a very impressive top end speed. He has a wide wingspan and big hands and given his height and high cut build is very fluid through the hips. Release off the line is sound and he gets into routes quickly. Is an imposing figure off the ball and smoothly attacks coverage alignment and knows how to use his frame. He possesses big, reliable, soft hands with very few body catches. He is excellent at catching balls outside of his frame, especially in the presence of defenders. He makes great adjustments to the ball while it's in the air, especially on the over-the-shoulder grabs. What really stands out is his ability to make plays on the jump ball, balls thrown in traffic and adjustments to poorly thrown balls. He has fantastic pure leaping ability and times these jumps very well. Body control while elevating to the jump ball is very sharp. As a vertical threat he can climb the ladder and get over the top of DB's quicker than he looks. He is a tall receiver that actually possesses a short stride so he does not always look all that fast yet he lulls defenders to sleep and then gets right over the top. He is fluid through the hips, but tall and must work on keeping his pad level low and not gearing down with tiny steps as a route runner. Short and intermediate route running is an area where he can really improve with coaching and time. With the ball after the catch he has some nice wiggle and change-of-direction and can make people miss churning out big chunks of yardage. However, while we like Story's straight-line speed, he does not always appear to have a second gear or short area burst to reach top speed rapidly. He is ultra athletic and big though and he makes a lot of plays on the ball. Also has experience on defense displaying his versatility and range. We feel he could be one of this classes better wide receivers.

I have talked to my FSU buddy on multiple occasions about Story. He said they're taking 1 WR this year after taking quite a few in the past few classes and only having a relative small amount of total scholarships this year to give out. They feel they've got their guy in Aquinas WR Rashad Greene. In any other year he says they take him, but becusae he is more of a project and having only limited numbers, he doesn't think they do.

Anyway, just a FWIW thing, but it sounds like he is not the lock to FSU that A LOT of people believe him to be.

College football recruiting -- Ja'Juan Story is in position to impress - ESPN

Story in position to impress

After spending much of the offseason dazzling onlookers at wide receiver, Ja'Juan Story (Brooksville, Fla./Nature Coast Tech) is headed back to the position where his team needs him most: quarterback.

The move came after a 20-13 loss in the spring game to Tampa Catholic and a tough night for Story to get the ball in his hands.

"We tried another option at quarterback and it didn't work out for us," Nature Coast coach Mark Nash said. "So Ja'Juan's going to move back to the position where he can get the touches he needs for us to be successful."

While the move back to quarterback wasn't originally in Story's plans for his senior season, the 6-foot-3, 190-pound athlete appears to be up for the challenge.

Contd....

Scout $ - Story Remains Wide Open

6/14

By Wallace...no top 5 yet...plans to camp at Florida, OSU and Clemson...wants to visit UNC as well.

I think with the offer to Smith OSU is done at WR...but Story just might be the only WR on the board you make room for regardless of who you have in the fold...

Nature Coast ATH Ja'Juan Story down to 14 schools
Posted on Tuesday, June 15, 2010

Nature Coast ATH Ja'Juan Story has announced his list of front-runners Tuesday.

Story has narrowed his list of 28 scholarship offers to his top 14. The list was provided by Sharks assistant Robert Kazmier.

They are: Auburn, Clemson, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Georgia Tech, LSU, Miami, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Pittsburgh, USF and West Virginia.

Story has taken unofficial visits to Florida State and USF. He will visit Florida next week for a camp. Kamier said Story also holds out hope of hearing fro other schools, particularly Texas and Oregon. Story hopes to visit the majority of the 14 schools listed.

Story (6-foot-4, 185 pounds) was recently moved from receiver to starting quarterback after Nature Coast's spring evaluation period. The move, coach Mark Nash said at the time, was made to get Story more touches. And without a proven quarterback to get Story the ball outside, this proved to be the best option.

Story primarily played receiver and defensive back in 2009, also sharing time at quarterback. He had 13 receptions for 423 yards (32.5 yards per catch) and three touchdowns. At quarterback, he had 27 carries for 265 yards and two touchdowns (just two starts as a quarterback). Defensively he had 22 tackles and one sack.

I know he has a huge offer-list, but I had gathered he favored the big-3 from Florida and then Ohio State, with Miami-FL as his probable destination. However, with Dorsett and Daniels committing there, I have to wonder how he views the Buckeyes now.

Let's go get 'em!

Nature Coast ATH Ja'Juan Story impressed with Florida
Posted on Tuesday, June 22, 2010

Nature Coast ATH Ja'Juan Story and his uncle, Rudy Story, took an unofficial visit Monday to Florida.

Ja'Juan, who has 28 scholarship offers including the Gators, cracked a couple of jokes.

"Urban (Meyer) laughed," Rudy said.

Most of the visit was serious business, and Florida left a very strong impression on the Story family.

Rudy said Florida talked about the offense - Ja'Juan is being recruited as a receiver - and the academic component. They got a tour of the Gainesville campus, met with an academic advisor, viewed the strength and conditioning facilities and met some of the incoming freshmen.

"I was impressed with Florida and I know he enjoyed the visit," Rudy said. "Everyone's going to have nice facilities, but the little things that Florida did made it stand out. ...I would love to come and be able to watch him every Saturday."

I think we take 1 more "pass catcher" along with Shane Wynn in this class. It probably could have definitely been a TE until Duron had to withdraw (though, hopefully he can make it back next year). This could be a race between Story and Vannett. I believe Story has mentioned a visit this summer, so hopefully we cna make an impression whenever that happens.
