Two of his better teams near the end of his tenure at UC probably would have made deep tournament runs, if not for bad luck. Kenyon Martin breaking his leg in the 2000 C-USA tourney ended what should have been Hugs best shot at a title since Van Exel. UC probably would have been the overall #1 seed with Martin, who was an absolute beast that year. 2002 was Steve Logan's senior year, and the team set the school record for wins. They lost to UCLA in the second round on some Hightower-esque officiating. Tied at the end of regulation, and the 1st OT, UC was fouled while shooting in the final seconds, and didn't get the call either time. Still goes down as one of the worst officiated games I've ever seen.
EDIT: Sorry, I forgot to answer your question. The final four was '92, Van Exel's junior year. Elite 8 in '93, and '96 (Danny Fortson). So, yeah, all within Hug's first 7-8 seasons at UC.
