'11 D.C. DT Kevin McReynolds (UCLA Signee)

OSU was in good shape even before the offer...I have him above Harley based on his frame and room to grow. A DL class of Hayes, Miller, Bennett and Williams (if offered...which I think he will be) would be a great start. Add someone like McReynolds and/or Lynch and that is almost unfair...that is a class that would rival Florida 2010 DL haul, although it's tough to compare the two given Florida landed the top 2 DTs and the top DE in the nation...and who knows what any of these kids will amount to until they get on campus and get involved with a college S&C program and begin working on more advanced techniques.

Completely agree. IMO, if we are able to reel in McReynolds and Kevin Williams, then Michael Bennett may be destined for the OL... but his versatility is what makes him such a great prospect. Both McReynolds and Williams are not offensive lineman, so obviously that would move Bennet to the other side of the ball. We could take 6 DL this year. I expect this to be an absolutely stellar DL class.

Had quite a birthday as USC offered on the day of & OSU the day after... He was high on Penn State last fall but hadn't spoken to anyone on staff for over 2 months until the other day... Is looking into visiting Happy Valley sometime in the Spring... Attended the Virginia junior day last weekend & will be at the Rivals Showcase in Frederick, MD next weekend...

I saw McReynolds play in person last year, and he is the real deal-big, agile, nasty, and active. I called someone who knows people on the staff and told them it would be worth calling St.John's for film on Mcreynolds.
I can't claim any credit for tOSU getting in on McReynolds-I found out today that tOSU had scouts at the game that I saw him at!

Rivals $ - McReynolds talks new offers
Brian Snow at BuckeyeGrove.com, March 5, 2010

McReynolds says the OSU offer makes him feel as if he's one of the best players in the country... He has a lot of respect for he staff & feels they can help him grow as a player & a person... Another recent offer that's caught his eye came in from UNC... He has a lot of respect for their coaches & the program... He's working on plans to visit the OSU Spring game & a southern swing to see some schools...

Fact of the matter is UNC and Butch Davis have a lot to sell right now and they could be a big threat, especially for defensive recruits. Their schedule is pretty murderous to start next season (LSU in Atlanta, @ Rutgers, East Carolina, Clemson, @ Virginia, @ Miami), but if they can start to win 10+ games a year, watch out. Back to back 8-5 seasons (with two bowl losses) are nice, especially after 2007's disasterous 4-8 campaign, but if they can get to a BCS bowl game that program could really take off.

I'm pretty sure this has been debated elsewhere, but haven't we been waiting on UNC to make the jump to the next level as a football program for about 20+ years now? I've always thought they should be better than they are: fair amount of instate and regional talent; beautiful campus; great academics; good climate; etc. Landing a big time QB as they have this season, early in the process, could help a lot too, I'd imagine. But I'll believe the UNC leap when it happens, given that it seems like it should have happened some time ago.

Butch Davis hasn't been the coach for 20+ years now...and John Blake is a great recruiting coordinator/defensive line coach. They've got some really other talented assistant coaches in Everett Withers and Troy Douglas.

I'll give you that, though I think Butch is dramatically overrated as a head coach. One truely great year with the talent-laden Hurricanes along with a handful of other good years, a failed experiment in the NFL, and now a decent but not spectacular showing with UNC. There are easily 10-15 current head coaches I'd personally prefer to have leading my program right now. And it's not as if UNC has never had a good head coach in the past. Mack Brown was there from the late 80s through the late 90s, and his total winning percentage during that period was sub-.600.

Like I said, I'm perplexed as to why UNC has never broken through with all the built-in advantages, and Butch Davis may be the guy to get them over the hump, but I'm going to remain skeptical until it happens at this point. Consistently landing players like Everett Golson and McReynolds would certainly help the cause.

But he has been there for three years and having your best two years go 8-5 with two bowl losses in a weak ACC, isn't all that impressive. All we've heard from the UNC program is to watch out now that Butch is in town. Still waiting.

Mack Brown had them at this point 10 years ago before moving to Austin, then they had to go out and start all over again, w/ the hiring of Butch Davis 3 years ago. The program wasted 7 years between two of the absolute best coaches in the country-but each one had a major rebuild job to do at the beginning of their tenure. If Davis stays another 4-5 years-watch out.

Plenty of attention for McReynolds
One of the first defensive tackles named to the 2011 Under Armour All-American game was Kevin McReynolds (Washington, D.C./Saint John's College). He holds multiple scholarship offers. Recently, USC, Auburn and Ohio State have jumped in. Vanderbilt also is close.

The offer from the Tigers was the first from a Southeastern Conference program for the 6-3, 274-pounder.

"I've really just been trying to work hard and just continue to get better," he said. "I think these offers are a testament to how hard I keep working. I like to compete and getting an offer from the SEC, it's the top conference in the country. It's a place I can compete to be the best."

McReynolds will hit the road soon. March 26-28 he will visit East Carolina, Duke, North Carolina and North Carolina State. He also plans to visit Los Angeles and check out USC, but does not have a date set yet. There are no leaders and he plans to get a close look at multiple schools before making a decision.

Receiver prospect Kelvin Benjamin emerged as one of the most intriguing prospects at last weekend's Badger 7-on-7 tournament - ESPN
