Former Ohio Mr. Football Rejects Plea Deal of 12-Years in Prison

STARK COUNTY, Ohio? A former North Canton Hoover standout running back accused in the armed robbery of a couple last year has rejected a plea deal from Stark County prosecutors, according to his attorney.

Erick Howard, 20, has been charged with a series of counts related the alleged crime including aggravated burglary, aggravated robbery, rape and kidnapping.
Howard's attorney Rufus Sims tells Fox 8 News that a plea deal of 12-years in prison was offered to Howard by prosecutors at a final preliminary hearing today in a Stark County Common Pleas Courtroom.

Sims says his clients rejected the deal and is set to defend himself against the accusations when his trial gets underway on January 30, 2011.

"12-years isn't something he is interested in," said Sims.

There are some situations where a kid is dealt a bad hand and resorts to poor decisions to try to make up for it. Then there are cases where someone is caught doing something stupid and makes a split second reaction that just digs the hole deeper. But this... there are no mitigating factors here. This is far beyond making a mistake or two. Disgusting and indefensible.
